http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2274301#content A main-belt asteroid, previously designated 2008 QH24, has been named after Wikipedia. Its description on the JPL Small-Body Database is: A bit of an odd name for an asteroid, but then, I guess there are asteroids named after all sorts of random things! |

That could be the basis for a game: thing of properties that asteroids should have, based on their names .Maybe the astronomer who discovered 12372 Lancearmstrong was on drugs at the time ?

That's pretty cool. A weird name for an asteroid, though. :o |

I don't know, but it does seem even odder to have an asteroid named after the world's biggest sports cheat than to have one named after Wikipedia .

I'm pretty sure an asteroid's name can't be changed after it's discovered. It's like changing the name of Halley's Comet. Who the hell would change its name? |

Well, maybe they would in the (highly unlikely) event that Edmond Halley was discovered to have been a fraud .

When I asked if anybody could edit it, I was referring to the website Wikipedia. Someone could just get on a computer and make the asteroid bigger or something, lol. |
