A very minor case of serious brain damage

We've probably all heard about graphene by now: it consists of a single layer of carbon atoms, and it's being touted by some as the next "super-material". Not surprisingly, especially given the potential applications of graphene, there has been a surge in the number of patents relating to graphene. Here's a comparison of the number of patents from various countries:

:china: China: 2,204
:usa: United States: 1,754
:south-korea: South Korea: 1,160 (Samsung is responsible for a lot of these)
:uk: United Kingdom: 54

Seems to be another case of Britain's love/hate relationship with technology. We love inventing it, but we hate exploiting it :P .

I know. I do wish the UK was more involved in it, though.
