A very minor case of serious brain damage

I rather like it when people are trying to develop something, but instead discover something very useful in an entirely different area. This video has a few examples - some of which I knew about, and some of which I didn't: I'm surprised that polyethene wasn't mentioned, not only because of how useful a discovery it was, but because it was discovered 'by accident' not once, but twice. Conductive polymers were also discovered by accident when Japanese chemist Hideki Shirakawa used 1,000 times the intended amount of catalyst in one of his experiments. Do you know of anything else that was discovered by accident? |

Wasn't there an element discovered by accident? (Maybe it's something else...) |

Maybe. I don't know of any elements that were discovered by accident, though. |
