A very minor case of serious brain damage

Michael Schumacher has announced that he is to retire from Formula One at the end of the current season. This brings to a close a career which started in 1991, and has seen him winning an unparalleled 91 races and seven World Championships for the Benetton and Ferrari teams. He then retired for the first time in 2006, but returned in 2010 with the Mercedes team. However, his second career has been a disappointment: no more wins, and only one podium finish in the three seasons since he came back. As a result, he's decided to retire from the sport again, this time most likely for good. He did have offers from other teams to continue with them, but the 43-year-old has decided he isn't motivated enough to carry on.

It's a pity his second career hasn't been a success, but I'm glad he's made the decision now, rather than dithering and just finding himself without a drive. It means that he can compete in the final six races of the season under no pressure at all; hopefully, he still has a great performance or two left in him.

I wonder what he'll do next? He could become a commentator/pundit, go into management (and maybe even start his own team), or even race in a different category of motorsport.

Just as Planned

It's a shame his second stint didn't go so well.

I would like to see him start his own team, actually :P .

If he does that, I just hope he's more successful than Alain Prost was :P .

He's also a UNESCO ambassador and he's donated tens of millions of dollars to charity, so maybe he'll have more time for that sort of work now?
