Formally called "The Universal Wall." I just like the name Concept better. In this wall, you will see four different walls. Each is a wall on its own. Each of these four walls has a similar concept running throughout it. Furthermore, these four walls are combined to answer the whole giant 8 by 8 wall (or whatever it is). I know this sounds confusing, so start small by working on one combo at a time in one of the walls (each wall is colored shall I say). Basically, each colored wall is a concept, but all four of these concepts solve a coherent concept as well. To solve a whole wall, you not only need to guess all four combos (each one being 25 points), but you also need to guess the concept throughout the whole colored territory (worth 50 points). If you solve the whole wall, you get the 150 points, plus an additional 100 points for getting the whole colored territory. The final combo (the concept of the four walls combined) is worth 100 points. Invented combos are a bit different. Like the last concept wall, invented combos will only exist if they fall within the realm of the central concept of the whole wall (the 100 point combo basically). But I'm going to throw a curveball here. Invented combos with at least three of the same colored words are worth 25 points. Invented combos with an an even split of two and two colors is worth 50 points. 75 points for three different colors. Invented combos with all the same color get 10 points. And a combo that has all four different colors is worth 100 points. Of course, this all hypothetical. As far as I know, there might not even be any invented combos. So basically, it's not worth it to rely on just invented combos. There is one blank space in the yellow wall. This is because one of the words is used twice for two different combos. I will allow this blank to be a "wildcard" for invented combos, meaning that it can be any word you desire it to be (but only for invented combos). Invented combos must have a minimum of 4 words (and you cannot use the blank space more than once in the same combo). If an invented combo has more than 4 words, I will not give you the colored bonus, but I will give you 5 extra points for each additional word. There is no limit for invented combos. The winner will be the one who wins the most walls, unless otherwise guesses the most combos. To get a green ribbon, you will need 650 points. This is subject to change based on participants and how hard you try. Some walls are easier than others. I tend to think the green one is likely the easiest, while the red one is probably the toughest. Either way, I'll say they're hard. Some of the words are metaphorical uses while some are literal. Some are loosely related. You really need to keep your mind wide open. I can give clues along the way if need be, but only after a combined 5 failed guesses. For 20 points, I will give a clue though the PM system for any given wall of your choice. Six guesses per day for combos, which includes the reasonings of the "concepts." All other reasonings are unlimited guesses. 9/30/12: New rules implemented (to complicate the game): 1. guessing a concept before all combos are found: -if wrong, you lose 50 points (this can bring you into negatives as well) -if correct, gain points for concept plus 25 points for every combo that isn't figured out yet -if all combos are found, no loss of points on wrong guess 2. guessing the last concept before all combos are found: -if wrong, game is over for you -if correct, you get points for it -if correct with less than 8 combos found, you win (not counting invented) -if all previous concepts are found, no loss of game on wrong guess Keep in mind, the final concept is complex and will need an explanation rather than a one-word answer. I probably forgot something else, but if I did, please just ask. It's a big wall, so I'm likely to forget. ![]() Final Concept: Historical Timeline (CJ + 100 points) Green Wall: 1. Night / Danger / Black / Alley - all to do with fear of the dark (CJ + 25 points) 2. Da Vinci / abstract / literature / beauty - Art (CJ + 25 points) 3. Lost / Find / Observe / Explore - discover (CJ + 25 points) 4. Car / Vintage / Plato / Movie - classic (CJ +25) 5. concept: historical eras (CJ + 50 points) CJ + 100 points for completing whole wall Blue Wall: 1. Type / Click / Search / Work - Things that one can do on a computer. (CJ + 25 points) 2. Soil / Hoe / Grow / Corn: Farming (CJ + 25 points) 3. Soil/ Hard / Magma / Crystal: Stone (CJ + 25 points) 4. Work / Metal / Pollute / Money: Factory (CJ + 25 points) 5. concept: Stages of technological development (CJ + 50 points) CJ + 100 points for completing whole wall Red Wall: 1. Night / Bright / Blue / Cheese: The Moon (CJ + 25 points) 2. Decay / Metal / Bronze / Old: Rust (CJ + 25 points) 3. Half / Twelve / Short / Hand: Hours on a clock (CJ + 25 points) 4. Emotion / Memory / Place / Cheese: Photography (CJ + 25 points) 5. concept: passage of time (CJ + 50 points) CJ + 100 points for completing the whole wall Yellow Wall: 1. Pine / Wood / Roots / Green: All to do with trees (CJ + 25 points) 2. Furry / hop / cuddle / four: Rabbits (PL + 10 Points reasoning; CJ + 15 combo) 3. Carve/ Seeds / Orange / Harvest - Pumpkins (PL + 25 points) 4. (blank: Observe)/ Four / Green / Lucky: Clovers (CJ + 25 points) [card was original word but is now odd one out] 5. concept: holidays (CJ +50 points) Invented: 1. Half/Short/Long/Night: _____life (CJ, +10 for all same color) Scoreboard CJ: 1000 points PL: 35 points Pot (all points paid for clues): 0 NOTE: Not every word has to be used for the main combos. I had originally intended every word to be used, but there have been better "invented" combos that have redefined my original combos, so I have given the benefit of the doubt (so this means some words may also be used more than once). Basically, the ends justify the means. The reasonings, rather than the combos, are what are more important in this wall, though the combos still have to make sense. @CJ: close enough for me to give you the combo, but you'll have to think about it a bit more once the "concept" part comes in @PL: Reasoning is spot on, but the combo is wrong. New rule: If you pay 20 points I can guarantee you a clue on any given wall of your choice. If not, clues will be random and after every 5 wrong guess (so far there's only been one). These points you pay will go into a pot and I will decide how they will be distributed later on. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 29 2012, 10:35 PM.

Nope, sorry. Now that's 6 guesses a day. The difficulty and the amount of combos raises this. I might even make it more if it needs to be. CJ, that counts as an invented combo. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 29 2012, 11:07 PM.

Closer than your previous combo... but no sorry. And you still have 2 more guesses. I raised the count to 6 a day. NOTE: There may be multiple ways to solve one combo. Don't rely on this theory, just keep it in mind. I give the benefit of the doubt. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 29 2012, 11:15 PM.

Close, but unfortunately the combo is wrong. What seems likely for one isn't the case. I realize this one might be a potential problem, but you're close. Reasoning is correct. By the way, the way this wall works is I can give you points for just combos, but not the other way around. I'll give 15 points for a combo without a reasoning, and then 10 points afterward for the reasoning. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 30 2012, 11:53 AM.

Have another 25 points! You have two more guesses remaining for today. Actually, that was not my original combo, but it's close enough to count it. The yellow wall is the most flexible wall due to the blank spot (hint, hint), which means that some words may be used twice for other combos. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 30 2012, 04:18 PM.

I'm doing well here ! So far, I'm dominating your wall, you've dominated Daniel's wall, and Daniel's dominated my wall. It's as though there's a kind of "Rock, paper, scissors" effect going on or something; I wonder why? I don't have any more ideas right now, but I'll have another look. |

Your walls are extremely hard for me to figure out; I don't know why that is. But yeah, it's kind of funny how that works. I'm going to give you the farming one CJ, it's close enough and actually better than the original combo I had in mind. I also gave PL credit for his reasoning "rabbits," but not for the combo (I didn't think his combo was better than the original ones I had in mind, so...). So I guess I will award reasonings without combos as well, so there's no stealing. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Sep 30 2012, 06:41 PM.

Yes, you are allowed to, but that will count as your final guess. However, if it is the very last concept that ties in everything, you need to explain in depth why everything connects, or else it's wrong. I think I should implement a rule that if you guess a concept wrong without having all the combos, then you lose 50 points. Not sure if you'd agree with that, but it would certainly make the game much more reasonable. And if it were the last concept, then it would be game over (if the others weren't found). As my last guess for today, I'll take a wild guess at the concept for the blue wall: There's a group about farming, and one about things you can do on the computer....so is the concept FarmVille ?

Nope, sorry. That is not it. New rules implemented after that guess (to complicate the game): 1. guessing a concept before all combos are found: -if wrong, you lose 50 points (this can bring you into negatives as well) -if correct, gain points for concept plus 25 points for every combo that isn't figured out yet 2. guessing the last concept before all combos are found: -if wrong, game is over for you -if correct, you get points for it -if correct with less than 8 combos found, you win Keep in mind, the final concept is complex and will need an explanation rather than a one-word answer.
