A very minor case of serious brain damage

Professor Sid Watkins, a world-renowned neurosurgeon and the former president of the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety, has died at the age of 84. In addition to his role with the FIA, he served for 26 years as the head of Formula One's on-track medical team, and first responder in the event of a serious accident. In this capacity, he was responsible for saving numerous driver's lives (among them Didier Pironi, Martin Donnelly, Karl Wendlinger, and Mika Häkkinen), as well as vastly improving the standard of medical care available to those involved in major crashes. He was also known for his close friendship with triple World Champion Ayrton Senna, and was one of the major contributors to the critically-acclaimed 2010 film about his life and death.

This is a very sad day in the world of Formula 1 :( . A great many Formula One drivers from the past 30+ years owe their lives either directly or indirectly to 'the Prof', a man who achieved so much, and asked for nothing in return. I offer my condolences to his friends and family during this very difficult time.
