Regis/Marco/Alice/Hunter: all first names of people (could add Murray for a fifth although I think he's a last name) Marco/Leonidas/Lynch/Darling/Tapes: all names of towns/cities -Marco, New Zealand -Darling, Dhawalagiri (Nepal) or Darling Heights, Queensland (Australia) -Lynch, Kentucky; also in Maryland and Nebraska -Leonidas, Minnesota; also New Orleans and Michigan -Tapes, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil If this doesn't work, I'm sure 4 of the 5 would. Color/Volkswagen/Operation/Surname: kind of general, but all have categories -colors: red, blue, yellow, etc. -Volkswagen: different types of cars -Operation: a series of actions completes a larger action at hand; in the board game a body has different bone parts to pick out; different operations -surname: several different names Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Jul 21 2012, 02:41 AM.

I can allow the first two as invented combos, but I think the third is a bit too general. Good start, though! |

I did include Murray in your first combo, since there are several famous people with that first name. The one I know best is the semi-retired motorsports commentator Murray Walker (technically, his full name is Graeme Murray Walker, but he always goes by 'Murray'). |

Not a main combo, but it might as well be! I'll give you 20 points for an invented combo, plus 10 bonus points, because I think it's so good. |

Close on both counts, but unfortunately, I can't award any points. However, if someone else gets either of those combos, I'll split the points with you. |

eco-friendly/hunter/Volkswagon/Operation: elimination of pests/harm -by being eco-friendly you eliminate pollution -a hunter eliminates animal pests in environment -Volkswagon can eliminate pests via roadkill -Operation is the initiative to maintain a healthy environment and clean up any litter; operation also eliminates any potential harms in said experimental factor I know, pretty cheesy, but hey, they all eliminate something. Throw in "lynch" to eliminate someone's life. Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Jul 22 2012, 02:17 AM.

Is the "Green" combo Hunter/Envious/Eco-friendly/Pan Pan-Green Coalition is a political alliance which favours Taiwan independence. Also, I have no idea what the fourth word is in the -try combo, so I'll guess: Tapes/Regis/Pan/Darling? Edited by Pyrite, Jul 22 2012, 04:45 PM.

I'll have a go at the "try" combo: tapes/regis/pan/colour The only difference is that it is prefix "tri-colour," whereas it is the suffix "try" for the others (tapestry, registry, pantry). Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Jul 22 2012, 05:04 PM.

Adam, that was pretty amusing, actually . I'll allow it as an invented combo.Nobody's guessed either main combo correctly, but I have just remembered that on this wall, points are awarded for the reasoning alone without the combo, so I should have given Daniel 25 points for each reasoning. I'll add those points in now - which effectively accounts for the points split I proposed. |

tapes/pan/marco/envious/water/surname: all can be scrambled to make other words (paste/nap/macro/niveous/tawer/manures) If you don't find this worthy enough, then you can count just 4 or 5 of them if that works. |

Now that you've both used your guesses for today, here's a clue for tomorrow: The reasoning behind the "green" combo is a bit more specific than just "Things relating to the colour green". It's "Different senses in which the word 'green' is used". |

I kind of had a feeling it had to do with that, I just still couldn't figure it out. I will have to think about it more. eco-friendly/hunter/envious/surname: green -eco-friendly is green -hunter green is a colour -envious with green -green is a common Swedish surname Edited by thecostumedanceparty, Jul 23 2012, 10:10 AM.
