A very minor case of serious brain damage

A new wall, and another new format! Let's see how this one works. This time, we have 36 words (in 9 groups of 4). This time, though, the layout is significant: the wall is divided into quarters, each of which contains one word from each combo. When guessing, you must tell me which four you think go together. Prizes are 10 points for the combo, and 15 points for the reasoning. No points for the reasoning alone, though; either the combo must already have been guessed, or you must post the combo along with the reason. Of the nine groups, there is one whose reasoning I consider to be very hard to get. If you manage to get this one, you win 50 points. Maximum number of guesses for the combos is 4 per day, with unlimited guesses for the reasoning. The 'day' starts/finishes at 12:00am GMT (so, 7:00pm EST, or 4:00pm PST). Also, we have invented combos, which have featured on other people's walls, but this is the first time they're featuring on mine. If you invent a combo that I like (with reasoning), but that isn't one of the ten main combos, then you win 15 points. Unlike the main combos, the invented combos do not have to include one word from each quarter, and those that don't do not count towards your limit of 4 guesses per day. Prizes are 1 post per point, up to a maximum of 200 posts. Once you've passed that, you can't win any more posts, but you can continue to play for points/fun. If you're not clear on something, or I've missed something out, then feel free to ask. Otherwise, here is your wall: ![]() Combos: 1) Bread / Pay / Rick / Drum - -Roll. Good luck! |

It was Rick, and the fact that the Rickroll song was on the radio this afternoon, while I was coming back from school. Anyway, I've got another idea for a reasoning, but I've only got two words that fit. |

Have another 15 points for an invented combo. I thought 'industrial' was a bit of a stretch at first, but I suppose you do get 'clouds' from factories, etc. |

Good guess, but I'm not sure I can give it to you as an invented combo. Firstly because it's the Age of Discovery (rather than the Discovery Age), and secondly because I think it's too close to one of the main combos. You still have 3 guesses, though. That one doesn't count, as it didn't use one from each quarter, and therefore couldn't be a main combo. |

The main combo is correct, but the reasoning isn't. They are surnames, but there's something else linking those four people. |

Because I see multiple patterns at once. with the 4 groups of 4 there are far fewer patterns to be had, hence my domination there. In the inventive groups I will see patterns all the frelling time, distinguishing them from the main combos is hit and miss. |

First one is, again, too close to a main combo. Second one works well as in invented combo, though, so you can have 15 points for that. Also, neither of those guesses used one word from each quarter (and therefore, neither could be a main combo), and so neither counted towards your 4 guesses. Also, I've set a definite time for when one 'day' ends and the next begins (which is midnight where I am, which passed over an hour ago), so, had those counted towards your four, those would have been your first two guesses for today. So, each of you has had 4 new guesses as of 1 hour, 25 minutes ago, and you have 22 hours, 35 minutes in which to make them. |
