Getting the rules from CJ's Second Connecting Wall, with a couple of tweaks.

Quote:

  • The rules of the Connecting Wall are as follows: the wall contains 20 words, which you must group into five categories of four, which are connected in some way.
  • When guessing a group, you must provide all four words which you think belong in the group.
  • If your 4 words do belong in a group, you receive 20 points (for the first four groups only; once the first four have been guessed, we automatically have the fifth). For a bonus 10 points, you can also tell me (in the same post) the reason why those words are connected. If you guess this incorrectly, or do not guess at all, then other people may clam the bonus posts by telling me what the connection is.
  • Not a rule, but a recommendation: don't tell me what the connection is unless you're sure that all four elements of the group are correct. Not only do you receive no credit for the connection unless the group itself is correct, but posting the connection may help other people to form the group correctly!
  • In order to prevent one person from dominating, or someone from winning without any skill by simply running through all possible combinations, you are limited to four guesses per day for the groups themselves (and two group guesses per post). However, you may make as many guesses as you like for the bonus points, once they become available.
  • Each group has an "odd one out", which has a difference from the other group members. Identify the "odd one out" for an extra 10 points.
  • If a total of four posts go by without any correct answers to anything, a clue concerning an unanswered group will be given out.
  • The contest is open until Wednesday, 30th May at 11:59pm GMT.

Here are the 20 words:

You may begin. And I hope this isn't too easy/hard.

Answers:
Bow, Mick, Hint, Risk - Correctly answered by CJ. Link - things that you take, also answered by CJ. Odd one out - Mick (take the mick, take a... for the others) - also answered by CJ
Wednesday, Forest, City, Orient - Correctly answered by CJ. Link - seconds names of UK football/soccer teams, also answered by CJ. Odd one out - City (applies to numerous football teams, unlike the others) - also answered by CJ.
Clue, Peter, Planet, Bloods - Correctly answered by thecostumedanceparty. Link - all preceded by Blue/Blues and all TV shows, also answered by thecostumedanceparty. Odd one out - Clue (Blue's Clues, as opposed to Blue.... for the others) - answered by CJ
Ice, Tropical, Factory, Greek - remaining group at the end. Link - all Cape the Porcupine levels OR all related to desserts - answered by CJ. Odd one out - Tropical (only uncompleted level OR only non milk-related dessert - also answered by CJ.

Leaderboard:
CJ - 125 points
thecostumedanceparty - 15 points

NOTE: Points were shared for the Clue/Peter/Planet/Bloods group between CJ and thecostumedanceparty, at the latter's request.

That's correct! And so is the reasoning.

The odd one out in the group is still on offer.

Take a hint/risk/bow
Take the mick?

That's right, too. So you've used one guess so far (because the odd one out and link guesses don't count).

These are hard. All I can think of is Peter Cottontail hopping through a forest.

EDIT: I hope these aren't only British terms...

I have an idea for one of the groups. I can see three, but not the fourth....

One of them is.

If I made it too hard, I could give a few hints in the form of pictures.

I figured. It seemed foreign to me. I could use some clues, not sure about others though.

EDIT: And if you do, please give clues when HoD isn't here... lol just kidding... but she really does own at this game.

OK, I'm tweaking the rules again.

If you go (in total, not individually) four posts (not including me) without answering anything correctly, you'll get a clue.

Give the order to deploy the glaive.

Factory, Orient, Planet, Tropical (All suffixed with the word "express") Odd ball should be Orient since you have to add -al to make it into an "express" doesn't count on tropical since it already has -al on the wall.

I suppose that could work, but it's not one of my groups.

That's four posts gone, so here's a clue:

Fitness is on the right sort of lines, but that isn't the group.

And it's starting to look like there's tons of possiblities here...

Ice/Peter/Bloods/Planet - "Blue _____". Odd one out is Blue Ice, because it isn't a TV show?

Let's try a completely different group, then:

Wednesday, Forest, City, Orient - all UK football clubs (Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, Leyton Orient). 'City' is the odd one out because it can be applied to numerous different football clubs.

The group is correct, the link is correct, and the odd one out is, too!!

So just two more groups, now.

Of course someone from the UK would know that... ah well. Gotta figure out the last two.

If mine was close, and it has Wednesday in it, does that mean there are multiple combos? Or did you not mean I was close?

Factory/Planet/Ice/Tropical (make your own planet with elements)

There aren't any multiple combos, but all of the incorrect group guesses could have been combos as well.

That one's very close, too.

Do you want another clue? Seen as Adam's got another one going, I don't mind giving another clue out early.

Peter/Planet/Bloods/Clues: "Blues" Clues, "Blue" Planet, Peter "Blue", "Blue" Bloods?

If this is correct, I'd like to give half the points to CJ because he did most of the work.

EDIT: Rather it's "Blue" Peter...

That's right, and you get the points for the reasoning. They're all preceded by blue/blues and they're all TV shows.
That leaves the other group as Ice/Factory/Greek/Tropical.

So that leaves...

The odd one out of Peter/Planet/Bloods/Clues (10 posts).
The reason that links Ice/Factory/Greek/Tropical (10 posts).
The odd one out of Ice/Factory/Greek/Tropical (10 posts).

I guess the last group is automatic: Greek, Tropical, Ice, Factory

I think I've realized the connection: they're all Cape the Porcupine levels! Odd one out is Tropical because it hasn't yet been completed?

Yep, or that it was the only level not on the demo.

(I would have accepted desserts as the link, too: Chocolate Factory, Ice Cream, Tropical Fruit, Greek Yoghurt, as I wasn't sure most people would get it)

So you guys can wrap this Wall up by getting the odd one out in the Blue TV shows group.
