CJ's Second Connecting Wall

Time for another of these, I think, now that Adam's is essentially finished. To make up for the final group being automatic, I've added a fifth group to this one, and made a couple of amendments to the rules, as follows:

Quote:

  • The rules of the Connecting Wall are as follows: the wall contains 20 words, which you must group into five categories of four, which are connected in some way.
  • When guessing a group, you must provide all four words which you think belong in the group.
  • If your 4 words do belong in a group, you receive 20 posts (for the first four groups only; once the first four have been guessed, we automatically have the fifth). For a bonus 10 posts, you can also tell me (in the same post) the reason why those words are connected. If you guess this incorrectly, or do not guess at all, then other people may clam the bonus posts by telling me what the connection is.
  • Not a rule, but a recommendation: don't tell me what the connection is unless you're sure that all four elements of the group are correct. Not only do you receive no credit for the connection unless the group itself is correct, but posting the connection may help other people to form the group correctly!
  • In order to prevent one person from dominating, or someone from winning without any skill by simply running through all possible combinations, you are limited to five guesses per day for the groups themselves. However, you may make as many guesses as you like for the bonus points, once they become available.
  • If you're feeling extremely confident, there is a Big Bonus available. If you use all five of your guesses for one day to solve the entire puzzle in one go (getting all five groups, plus all five connections on your first guess), you receive an additional 120 posts, on top of the 20 from each of the first four groups, and the 10 from each connection.
  • The contest is open until Friday, 18th May at 11:59pm GMT.

So, is that clear? If not, feel free to ask on what you're not sure about. If so, here are your 20 words. See if you can form five groups of four out of them:

You will notice that the word 'Tango' appears twice. This is not a mistake: it occurs in two separate groups.

Good luck!

1st group: Tango/Morris/Rain/Tap - guessed correctly by PL-Stokie. All types of dance - also guessed by PL-Stokie.
2nd group: Sierra/Hotel/India/Tango - guessed correctly by HeroofDarkness. Letters of the NATO Phonetic Alphabet - also guessed by HeroofDarkness.
3rd group: Blue/Micro/Potato/Poker - guessed correctly by HeroofDarkness. "-chip" - guessed by HeroofDarkness.
4th group: Family/Submarine/Power/Weapon - guessed correctly by PL-Stokie. "Nuclear-" - guessed by PL-Stokie.
5th group: Ecort/Focus/Fusion/Galaxy - automatic. All cars made by Ford - guessed by PL-Stokie.

PL-Stokie: 70 points
HeroofDarkness: 60 points

Tango, Morris, Fusion and Tap.

And I think I can get three of another group, but not the last one.

That, or I could be completely wrong...

You're on the right lines, but that's not right. You have 4 guesses left today.

Tango, Morris, Rain and Tap?

I still don't think it's right...

That one is right!

The reason is still open.

They're all dances.

The others, I can't get another group from.

Okay...here goes. I've got three nailed down, but I'm guessing one of them.

Blue, Family, Escort, Hotel?

That's not a group, sorry. 2 guesses left today.

Hmm...could have the wrong link, then.

But I'll try Weapon, Power, Fusion, Family...

Again, you're thinking along the right lines, but it's not quite there.

Give the order to deploy the glaive.

Tango, India, Sierra, Hotel (All military alphabet)
Power, Submarine, Fusion, Family (All prefixed with nuclear)
Micro, potato, power, poker (suffixed with chip)

The first one is correct. 30 posts for you!

The rest are almost there, but not quite.

I have already solved the other 2 and reasonings. Those 2 are incorrect.

Escort, Galaxy, Fusion, Focus (as the Ford cars)
Submarine, Weapon, Power, Family (nuclear)

That's pretty much all I can come up with...

Escort, Galaxy, Fusion, Focus (as the Ford cars)
Submarine, Weapon, Power, Family (nuclear)

That's pretty much all I can come up with...
And they're both correct, with the correct reasoning!

You only win a 20-point prize for the first group (since the fifth group comes automatically once we have the other four), but you do win 10 points for each of the two reasonings.

I give up. There's no use for me to even try. Answers solved before I get a chance. I need a dummies wall to play this game. I'll go post somewhere where I'm more useful, but it's less fun.

:( You were pretty good in my first one.

I think part of the problem is that these walls are too small, and five guesses per day is probably too many. It might be better to have, say, 9 groups of 4 (arranged in a 6x6 grid), and 4 guesses per day.

I think 4 guesses is still a lot. I don't have an unlimited amount of time to come on, so by the time I do, the contest is over. I don't know if there's an easy solution. It's okay; you don't have to change it just because of me...

What would you say is the ideal number of guesses? I think 3 is the lowest I could go and have it still workable; 1 or 2 would make the whole thing painfully slow.

Er....I didn't expect that.

I think three guesses per day...and you can only guess one group and one reason in each guess. Or you could do more mini-combos...

BTW: For Blue, Family, Escort...I was thinking royal as the connection.

It doesn't really matter what you do because these guys are so good they guess it on the first try. 3 guesses a day would be way more reasonable though.

I must admit, I was very surprised how quickly people got them. I thought some of them might take a while.

Mine was the same. HerofDarkness is just too good at this game, and PL-Stokie has proven his worth as well.

Like I said, I'm more mad at myself for not being able to guess these properly.
