A very minor case of serious brain damage

In about a month and a half, the 2012 Formula One season is due commence in Albert Park, Melbourne. Right now, the teams are unveiling to the world the cars that they are going to use, at high-profile launch events. Some of these cars, such as this year's McLaren-Mercedes, are very aesthetically pleasing (I can always trust McLaren to make a good-looking car): http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/201202/mclaren-mp4-27-formu_600x0w.jpg Unfortunately, this year, the McLaren seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Most of the other cars for this year are just pig-ugly. Probably the best example of this is the Ferrari, which has this super-wide front nose which makes the car look utterly horrendous. It's very blocky, so it's like it was made out of Lego or something: http://www.topgear.com/uk/assets/cms/90d939d4-641c-467c-9a99-c19aec7cbc72/Large%20Image.jpg?p=120203_12:51 Of course, there's no prize for the best looker, and there's probably some technical reason why Ferrari have done that; I'll be interested to see whether it makes their cars any faster. Some of the other teams have done that too, like Caterham: http://static.sidepodcast.com/content/2012/01/fugly-caterham-f1.jpg Their car looks awful too, but there seems to have been a real missed opportunity here to make it look great. They could have painted eyes on those two bulges in the front nose, some menacing teeth down the sides, and some scales along the top of the nose, to make it look like a crocodile! If they do that, I'll be supporting them this year .What do you think of these cars? |

Do aesthetics matter, it's not like people are going to buy them. If it gets the job done then surely that's all that matters. |

It's like I said in my first post. They certainly won't go any slower or lose any points for building ugly cars. I suppose I just think aesthetics are nice (although I'm aware that they're not important at the end of the day). |
