http://www.canyoucrackit.co.uk/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15968878 The GCHQ, part of the UK's intelligence services, has published a coded message (on the first URL linked above), shared it on various social networking sites, and invited young people to try to decipher it. The idea is to recruit talented individuals to join the organisation; since many of these people aren't attracted to traditional methods of recruitment, they decided to do something a bit different. Can you crack it? I've had a go, but I can't really see where to start. I thought it might be something to do with hexadecimal character codes, but that didn't get me anywhere. I suppose, though, that that is a bit obvious, and might give an unfair advantage to computer-literate people, rather than people with a knack for cracking codes. In any case, this closes on 12th December, so you don't have much time! |

As I remember, this is basically how they recruited Eli for the Stargate Program. |

That's quite interesting, actually. I'm sure the correct answer has been posted somewhere on the Internet, but I'm refusing to look it up. (In any case, they're not worried about that, since it would still have achieved its intended purpose of raising awareness). |

Well, it looks like GCHQ are at it again: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20456782 This time, though, it's a genuine code from World War II, which has stumped them. It was found on the leg of a dead pigeon while somebody was renovating their chimney. It's believed that the key was either randomly generated, or came from a probably now-destroyed code book. So, any ideas ?

It's definitely a poorly-drawn Word Find.

Actually, there's a thought....maybe it's one type of code cleverly disguised as another ?
