A genuine alkali metals video!

A very minor case of serious brain damage



Here we have a video that shows the real reactions of the first five alkali metals (lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium) with water, and the first three with air. I did see demonstrations of the first two at school too, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the others.

Contrast with this version: the one from Brainiac. The last two were faked: explosives were used (as you could probably tell from the wires leading into the bathtub!). It's sad, because that's one of the most popular videos of these reactions, and many people may have been misled by them.
