A very minor case of serious brain damage

This word game is similar to Hangman in some ways. You have to guess a word, but you'll be told the starting letter and the length, say:

S _ _ _ _ _

You then have to guess what the word might be. For example, you might guess that the word is "SPOILT". I'd then mark all letters that are in the right place in red, and all letters that are in the word (but not in the correct position) in orange:

SPOILT

So, what this tells you is that the fourth letter is an I, and that there's a T in the word, but not at the end. You can use this to help you in your next guess, so, you might guess 'STRIPE':

STRIPE

So, it begins with 'STRI-'. The next person might guess 'STRING':

STRING

They got it right! The person who solves the puzzle wins 20 points for solving on the first guess; 18 points for solving after one incorrect guess; 16 points for solving after 2 incorrect guesses; and so on, decreasing by 2 for every incorrect guess (I'll put the number of points available next to the word to make this easier). Also, they host the next round (so we won't get one person completely dominating the game). If, after ten incorrect guesses, nobody has solved correctly, the host tells us the answer and then hosts another round.

We'll keep a running tally of everyone's scores as we go along. The first person to win 100 or more points is declared the winner, and they win 2 posts for every point they scored. Everyone else wins 1 post for every point they scored.

Also, each guess you make has to be a valid English word. Guesses such as 'SAEIOU' (to see what vowels are in the word) won't count, and you'll be disqualified until the next round if you do anything like that. Proper nouns and brand names are allowed, but I won't be using any as solutions (although others may do so if they wish).

So, here's the first one: a 6-letter word beginning with 'E':

E _ _ _ _ _ (0 incorrect guesses = 20 points available)

Good luck!
