Wow. Real shame about this:

The caves are accessible today because the mining company's pumping operations keep them clear of water. If the pumping were stopped, the caves would again be submerged. The mining company has announced their intentions to stop pumping within the next year.

Then again, thanks to the high temperatures and things, they're not really suitable for being opened to the public.

I wonder whether the further caves will be explored eventually? The thing is, that would require the demolition of some of the crystals...

I wouldn't want that. It would ruin the beauty.

I'm guessing there wouldn't be a way in that avoids the caves that have already been explored?

Probably not economically viable to do that, though, since these are hardly likely to open as a tourist attraction any time soon.

I'm actually hoping that it doesn't open to the public. These kinds of things deserve to be left alone.

Well, if a cave like this is opened to the public, it's only a matter of time before some idiot comes along and starts breaking things. It's happened at a couple of caves I've been to.

That's what happens when people mess with beautiful things like that...

Well, not within our lifetimes, at least, given how slowly they develop.
