I can see why it has that name XD

It looks similar to the Cartwheel Galaxy:

Sorry, its page is only in Polish :(

Abell 3376 - the cluster of galaxies located in the constellation Pigeon within 614 million light years from Earth .

The cluster Abell 3376 in X-ray resembles a missile. This shape shows the flow of matter into the crowd with her right hand. Shown in blue radio huge arches to the far left gormady were formed by shock waves caused by the mergers of objects.

The increase in the cluster Abel 3376 is dependent on the rate of expansion of the universe and regulated by the influence of dark matter , dark energy and gravity in relation to large structures.

Is that Polish for 'Pigeon', or is the constellation a pigeon?

Nope, it's Latin for dove/pigeon

Ah, right. 'Dove' seems like a more sensible name for a constellation than 'pigeon' :P !

Oh, wow. I knew that galaxies had black holes in their nuclei, but I didn't know that they made shapes like that!

Today's featured picture is of the Needle Galaxy, a spiral galaxy which is visible edge-on from Earth:

I can certainly see how it got its name!
