This topic is about gold; one of those elements that gets everyone excited. Of course, it's been used in jewellery and as a store of value throughout history, but it does have a variety of other modern uses. For example, the McLaren F1 used gold foil as a heat shield in its engine.

Here's a gold ring, stamped with the chemical symbol, atomic number, and relative atomic mass of gold:

If you bought now, probably not a lot. It'd be better to buy when the price is low, and sell when it's high.

Gold really doesn't seem all that impressive to me. I find much more beauty in sapphires, emeralds, or rubies.

What about this fully functioning Rubik's Cube made out of gold?

The 'colours' on it are different gemstones, such as rubies and emeralds.

It is. I'd quite like it, but I highly doubt I'd be able to get it...it's valued at $1.5 million.

It's certainly very valuable, although if I'd been asked to name a value for it, I would have said something like $600,000. Then again, I'm no expert.

An Australian amateur prospector has amazed experts by unearthing a massive gold nugget. It weighs 5.5kg, and was found about 60cm underground using a handheld metal detector. It's valued at over A$300,000 (approx. $315,000, or £197,000).

Shows that you can sometimes get very lucky!

Indeed. I just think it's odd. Gold is in small amounts usually.
