Three old ladies live together in one house, and they have 1 old black and white TV. They would like a new colour one, but can't afford it on their pension. One day they are out in town and walk past a second hand shop and see a nice telly for only 30 pounds. The buy it, splitting the cost evenly, 10 pounds each. As they are old the shop keeper offers to have it delivered later and the ladies accept.

A few hours later the bloke who does delivers is about to leave when the shop keeper remembers that they are having a special offer that week, 5 pounds off everything. He gives the delivery man 5 pounds to give to the 3 ladies. On the way the man realities that you're never going to split 5 quid easily so he gives the old ladies 3 pounds, one pound each and pockets the two pound change. My question is, what happened to the other pound?

All the women payed 9 pounds for the TV, plus the 2 the man took for himself, which adds up to 29 pounds. So where's the missing one?

A very minor case of serious brain damage

This problem is...annoying. I'm sure those amounts need not add up to 30, and it's just a coincidence that they add up to 29 in this case, but I can't think of a way to prove it!
