Spectacular!

I remember seeing Hale-Bopp too; it was much larger than most comets :P . I think it was in 1997 (certainly before I moved house, which was at the beginning of 1998), so Josh would have been about 3 then! I'm surprised you can remember so far back...but, then, I can also remember a few things from when I was 3.

:o WOW. That looks a lot brighter than any of the stars!

I missed that comet in 2007, but it seems to come around approximately every seven years, so maybe I'll get another chance.

There was a meteor shower about a month ago, but I couldn't see any meteors, unfortunately :(. I think I just missed it...

Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 colliding with Jupiter. This looks like an artist's impression as opposed to a photograph, but I imagine it would have looked spectacular!

I think they're basically balls of dust and ice.

When it actually happened (which would have been when you were four), or later than that?

Wow - I've seen a lot of space programmes, but I don't think I've seen any dedicated specifically to comets.

I think it was about what comets could do if one crashes into the Earth

I think I've seen one something like that, except it was an asteroid.

Of course, asteroids hit the Earth all the time, but they're mainly small ones that don't really do anything.

I know, it may have been that. I've found pieces of iron before, but I dunno if they're meteorites.

Do you still have the pieces of iron? If so, you could watch this video, and then tell me whether you think you have any meteorites.

It is. I had to look hard for the second (blue) tail, though.
