Its that time of year when a big camp rainbow coloured glitter cloud of glee wafts over Europe causing mass displays love and joyous singing and playful banter as well as general unity and harmony. This of course is then fallowed by xenophobic paranoia and conspiracy theories and possible hangovers... Yes Comrades its Eurovision time! YIPPY!! For those of you who are unaware as to what Eurovision is here is a brief synopsis! Eurovision is an international music contest between different countries within Europe (as well as some which technically aren't but we don't talk about that). Each nation that takes part submits an act to represent them which (more often than not) is chosen by a national vote or its split 50/50 between the public and a expert panel or is just selected by a panel (See: UK's Entry). The entrants are divided into 2 groups for the Semi-Finals to decide who goes through to the finals on Saturday. With the exception of 'The Big 5' who get automatic promotion as they pay the most toward the event and the winning country from last year making a total of 6 automatic finalists. The Big 5 used to be the Big 4 but as Italy has rejoined the contest (and presumably is digging deep into its back pocket) its been given automatic promotion to the final. Also as a Big 5/4 country won last year there is no 6th aditional member, so its very much all to play for for the finalists. This year I'm linking to the profiles on the Eurovision website this will save time and alows you do your own reasurch into the acts and the even its self, just click the name of the country you want to listen to and away you go. So here is a list of the Finalists which I'll add my own opion of the Big 5 them closer to the Final its self you know fairness and all that: ![]() France - Amaury Vassili - Sognu Its a big one this and I aint talking the size of his... voice its one of the favourates to win or at least thats what the bookies say. France always puts big acts up but thats not to say people will take to it. Still its a good one. ![]() Spain - Lucía Pérez - Que me quiten lo baila She may have a hand full of Freddie Mercurys in the vid' but I dobut she will be the champion ![]() Germany - Lena - Taken by a Stranger She won last year but can she win again? Well the song is good but isn't that Eurovision, but then her song last year wasn't either and she won, Acodring to googles magic Eurovision Predictor fluxuates bettween this winning and Jedward. United Kingdom - Blue - I Can ![]() This year the UK have said 'Fuck it' and put forward a real pop act for once, they used to be one of the biggest acts in UK, the responces they've been getting are pritty damn big too. Bookies say they one of the favorites but Can they? Italy - Raphael Gualazzi - Madness of Love After 17 years away they are back WITH A VENGANCE! This song is an award winner already, I don't think it can win but it will sure will give it a good shot ![]() Azerbaijan - Ell and Nikki - Running Scared Ever since they joined Eurovision people have been saying that 'this is their year!', and given how they've swooped up to the upper peaks of the leader board I'd say that the pressure was on them to deliver, dose this track deliver? Yes! Can it win? Well its a damn strong contender and a great little pop song so... watch this space ![]() Croatia - Daria - Celebrate I think the names a little hopeful, don't get me wrong its a good Euro-dance track but its nothing special but you never know it may spring to life on stage. Also she looks like the UK's Eurovision 2010 entry Josh Devobe ![]() Finland - Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam Once upon a time nearly every entry Finland put forward was a Hard Rock/Metal act these days the fires gone out and we get mellow Indie Pop, not a bad thing and this is a good track. Buuuuttt! It lacks a certain spark the Tom Dice had last year. Georgia - Eldrine - One More Day By contrast, here is Georgia! A strong one, I'll admit its a pleasant surprise to have music at Eurovision which actually feels current (well some more than others is). However if the Live set up to this doesn't live up to the song then, well, I don't expect to see it having ONE MORE DAY! HAHAHAHAHAH! Ahhh... I'm so awesome... h-hello? ![]() Greece - Loukas Giorkas feat. Stereo Mike - Watch My Dance Greece aren't ones to disappoint you at Eurovision, even if last years entry was like watching C&C's Kane' secret recruitment video, this one however... Well its gonna do well, nuff said its Greece... ![]() Hungary - Kati Wolf - What About MY Dreams? Must... resist... urge to... make... Hungry like the Wolf joke... Well If I'm honest its nothing special hell I'd even call it run of the mill. For Eurovision anyway; Strong vocals [CHEAK] Thumping Dance beat [CHEAK] Dances who look like their dancing to a completely different track [CHEAK] ![]() Iceland - Sigurjón's Friends - Coming Home I always wondered what a European Take-That would sound like like Up All Night in parts, yet in this instance its forgivable this is a sweet lil' pop offering. This will be the UK's one to beat, providing they make it that far. Which no doubt they will. ![]() Lithuania - Evelina Sašenko - C'est Ma Vie A calm slow ballad, very well put together but its either take off like a rocket or crash like a crappy paper plane. I'd like to think its gonna be the first but with Eurovision you never know. Well you can take a wild guess. And I'll say yes it will, and the pianist will turn into a T-Rex ![]() Russia - Alexey Vorobyov - Get You Look its Russia, their gonna be in the finals like it or not, I suppose we should be grateful that this a fairly decent ![]() Serbia - Nina - Čaroban Welcome to Eurovision, typical of it even, no winner here folks, It will be lucky to make it to the final... ![]() Switzerland - Anna Rossinelli - In Love for a While Very contemporary, very nice, I like it ![]() Austria - Nadine Beiler - The Secret Is Love Another melodic one this, strong and gutsy but feels like it should be on an 90's power ballard album, not to say that that is a bad thing but how many 90's power ballards can you name? Thought so, but this one could do well ![]() Bosnia & Herzegovina -Dino Merlin - Love In Rewind I'm sorry when I say the promo pic of this guy Spike Milligan immediately sprang to mind hearing him well its a hard one, I liked it till the beat kicked in which kind of kills its charm. But hell the guys a legend in his neck of the woods so you never know he may swing it. ![]() Denmark - A Friend In London - New Tomorrow One of the more... acceptable songs in the contest... and by that I mean I wouldn't be surprised If I heard in on a mainstream music station, not like that Is gonna happen Its a Eurovision song hell we don't even play our own nation's song on the radio let alone anyone else's ![]() Estonia - Getter Jaani - Rockefeller Street A lot is going on in this song, some parts work and some don't in particular the break down with the do-waps, but hell this is a points sponge as ever I say one ![]() Ireland - Jedward - Lipstick Yes its them, Jedward, well what can you say about them... well... they are... Jedward and thats what they do... Now I do like this one but with that said they've been a guilty pleaseur of mine since I first say them on the XFactor back in 2009 and I've been listening to this track since it came out so... yeah I like them... IS THAT A CRIME!? ![]() ![]() Moldova - Zdob și Zdub - So Lucky Please lord let us have one rock(ish) act in the finals... please... ![]() Romania - Hotel FM - Change A chearfull up beat number, but It takes more than smiles and sunshine to make it, though I'm quietly confidant that it will do well ![]() Slovenia - Maja Keuc - No One A slow burner, but then there is allways one, look If I'm honist I wasn't listening too closely to this and there is a reason for that. Its bloody boring! I've heard it all befor. Granted I don't know what shes saying but I've heard enough songs like this to see me till... erm Tuesday?... ![]() Sweden - Eric Saade - Popular His Promo pic makes him look like a Tween Pop Twat, but don't let it put you off this song is... well great and may just be a popular choise with the voters ![]() Ukraine - Mika Newton - Angel The moment she started I said 'Oh god...', propbably my least favorate of this set. Christ the more I listen to it the more I hate it! And I like Jedward for Christ sake! The Finals kick off at 9pm CET, you can watch it on TV (if your in Europe) OR you can watch it online. Init marvlous! Well not long now.... Who will win!? Who will fail!? And who will have a random stage invasion half way through? Theres only one way to find out!
