The son of Colonel Cubbage?!
|
I was going to request this to FZE in private, but I figured I could just make a thread about it, so... I did. I need a model of the Romanian Armed Force's main assault rifle, the Puşcă Automată model 1986 (Wikipedia link), also known as the AIMS-74. ![]() From what I learned in Wikipedia and another site, it's a rifle based off the AK-74 (the younger, handsome sibling of the AK-47, FYI), designed by and fabricated in Romania. The moment I noticed it saying it's based off the AK-74, I planned on simply getting a model from garrysmod.org and reskinning it, but, as you'll notice, the designs are actually pretty different: This is the AK... ![]() ... and this is the AIMS. ![]() I would really appreciate a detailed rifle model for use in comics. Emphasis on "detailed", because I tend to do a lot of close-ups in comics, and it would help if I showed the gun in all its splendor. Also, FZE, despite what I've told you about being a skinner, I can't skin guns. So far I've only done reskins, and every time I try to do something new it ends up like shit, so it'd be really cool if you could get the skin done, too. If you're not much into making a rifle from scratch, you can always pick one of the existing AK-74 models and modify it to include the AIMS's characteristics, as they're pretty similar. Otherwise, if you want a challenge, go for it. ![]() Can i has gun plz? ![]() More reference pictures, plus a site detailing the gun and its history: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.avtomats-in-action.com/pro19.html Edited by Mythos, Jun 7 2010, 12:41 AM.

Do you want the Anti-Posing Device on it?

Yes. Noclip works around that. ![]() Does this mean you'll do it? Thanks! |

Well, noclip works around it in the same sense attaching the battery of a '94 Chrysler LHS to the leads of your '95 Volvo 850 by way of 8-foot jumper cables stuffed under your hood works around not having a proper battery, I suppose. Wait, that came out wrong. Point being I never put stocks on guns because they'll just end up sticking through someone's arm and looking ridiculous to anyone who examines the comic hard enough. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, 3 things! 1. Do you want the stock folded or extended? 2. This will be as accurate a representation as I can manage - this does not mean it will be accurate, or even good. My references come primarily from the AKS-74, which appears identical in all respects that are not immediately obvious from your reference pictures. 3. This model may well eat polygons like no other, I cannot say until all the Booleans and ProCuts are done. 4. The texture may also end up terrible. That's 4 things. 5. I just got S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so timeframe nyeeeeeerm screeech boom 5 things. Edited by FZE, Jun 7 2010, 04:30 PM.

Alright, then screw the stock, I guess. And man, anything you can do is already better than enough. Thanks a bunch! |

I mean if you want the stock it's no problem at all to put it on, I'm just saying that my guns are almost always stock-free because of the inconvenience they cause me in posing. |

Yeah, I understand. I'd rather go with the modeller's advice on this one.

All right, a day and a half's work, but I finally got it done. Part 1 of the Pa Md. 86 rifle: The exterior hammer, in all its high-detail glory. ![]() ![]() Edited by FZE, Jun 8 2010, 09:25 AM.

GASP! ![]() So you didn't take my suggestion of altering existing AK-74 models? |

I would have, but for that I would need a working Model Decompiler, and for that I would need there to be a single competent employee at Valve who doesn't sit around thinking of ways to break the SDK further with each passing update. |
