He Makes Things
So with some more powerful design tools at my disposal, I've begun drafting a weapon I always meant to include with SpecFor, the Gauss Carbine. A compact, yet longer-range weapon I felt was necessary, after releasing two pistols and numerous melee implements.

HERE'S THE TWIST

This time, YOU help design it!

While I was supposed to be paying attention in Philosophy and Chemistry, I sketched so many ideas for this weapon that I couldn't decide which was best, but I've narrowed it down to three, and now the Union gets to pick its favorite!

We'll start with basic concepts, then refine with modifications, accessories, and finish up with textures and color schemes.

ONLY ONE OF THESE WEAPONS WILL BE DEVELOPED PAST THE BLACK SILHOUETTES YOU SEE BELOW.

And so...

BDU Gauss Carbine R&D: Part 1

Your Mission:
Choose a basic design for the weapon.

Design A
Posted Image
Classic Design Hybrid Battle Rifle
Combining elements of time-tested battle rifles for reliability and modern adaptations for improved performance, Design A utilizes the best of each generation of rifle. Features include a forward magazine well, shortened barrel, and familiar design.

Notable Examples:
- Colt M4/16 Rifle (USA)
- Avtomat Nikonova AN-94 Abakan (Russia)
- H&K G36 (Germany)

Disadvantages:
- Increased size and weight
- Reduced accuracy

Design B
Posted Image
Bullpup Design Modern Assault Rifle
Making use of space-age polymers and innovative layout, Design B is a lightweight, ergonomic, compact weapon that uses its design to achieve maximum barrel length and accuracy in the shortest possible frame. Features include improved accuracy, modular design, compact size, and extreme mobility.

The cut-away area in the rear of the weapon indicates an open stock profile, exposing the powerplant for improved cooling, necessary as a result of removing heat control hardware for decreased size and weight.

Notable Examples:
- Steyr AUG (Austria)
- Tavor TAR-21 (Israel)
- GIAT FAMAS (France)

Disadvantages:
- Unfamiliar layout
- Less efficient cooling

Design C
Posted Image
Machine-Pistol Carbine
Design C adapts a versatile machine-pistol to a more powerful, long-range weapon with a longer barrel, collapsible stock, and stabilizing foregrip. Features include rounded performance, higher rate of fire, and intuitive layout.

Notable Examples:
- Ingram MAC M10/11 (USA)
- IMI Uzi (Israel)
- Steyr TMP (Austria)

Disadvantages:
- Reduced reliability
- Front-heavy design

Now go, my Union, CHOOSE YOUR WEAPON!

Love it, small modification though:
Sub machine gun (the last one)
Shorter barrel, longer stalk.

B is my fave from those designs, but if A had a nicer barrel, rounded and stoof i would prolly choose that :)

I believe that B would be of better service to the Union, its layout will need some getting used to but I will only be a temporary hindrance.

So be it, the Union has spoken.

R&D: PART TWO

Included below is a link to an enormous image containing four versions of the base weapon - two each with short or long barrels, and with straight or banana-style magazines. At the top of each column is the weapon's body with the attachment to be displayed below.

Attached to these are one of six items, including:

- Holographic Sight
- Fixed Long-Range Scope
- Red Dot Sight
- Flashlight
- Laser Pointer
- High-Visibility Scope

YOUR MISSION:

Select a barrel and magazine style, and which attachment(s) are the best. You can mix-and-match, for instance, a short-barreled rifle with banana magazine, high-visibility scope, and flashlight.

You can also make suggestions for modifications to the weapon or any additional attachments.

The most promising choices will be given high-resolution, detailed blueprints so a decision can be reached for the final design of the weapon.

Banana-style magazines ("It's peanut-butter jelly time!"), short barrel (long barrels look silly), and laser pointer (because editing laser pointers in Photoshop is awesome and ends up looking very cool).

Oh! Oh! How about an optional grenade launcher attachment (i.e. two variants of the same rifle model - one with, and another without)? At least, if nothing else, it's useful to shout "N00B TUBE!" at people. Modern Warfare 2 joke

Agreed with Mythos, only with a Flashlight as well on the other side of the gun if possible. If not, then no laser pointer, but a flashlight.
Oh and the "High visibility" scope (the far middle right one I'm assuming.)
