I don't like this thread, and for one reason only. I have no idea what I want to do with my life. A few years before I finished college, I knew that I wanted to be an Early Childhood teacher, even after work experience.. but then I suddenly lost my interest for it, and now I have no idea what I want to do or study. Hence why i took a gap year. It's so much pressure to decide now, because what we do decide now, will most likely be with us for the rest of our lives. I didn't want to go straight to Uni or something, not knowing what I wanted to study, because then that was just a waste of time and money. Yet I still have no idea. All I know is, I'm pretty good with computers (I got top in class for both IM and ICT last year), so I think I want to do something in that. But what is the question, and I don't have an answer.

Aww, yeah. :( Pressures are all around us and they certainly don't help in making decisions.

My only advice (if you want some) is to take your time, try some different things - jobs, voluntary work, anything different - and maybe it'll come to you.

I left school, went to sixth form college and at 18 I was being told to apply to university when I had no idea what I wanted to do. I spent a year volunteering, got a part time job, just doing different things...and then a university course came along that was just perfect for me. And here I am 2 years later finishing my second year, possibly with a part time job in an area I want to work and I know what I want out of life.

And there was a time when I thought I wasn't going to get anywhere...little story for you there! :p Basically, don't rush, don't let anyone rush you and it'll come.

Yeah I have a job at the moment, but it's not exactly ideal (I've been there for two years, and at that point it was just a part time after school job) But i just cant' seem to find anything that interests me.. In a couple of days I am sending my CV to a few employment agencies, and then hopefully I'll get some interviews, and they do all kinds of tests and stuff to find out what job is best suited for you.. and then they do like temp work, so one week they will ring you up and ask you to go somewhere (and it could range from anywhere to a couple of days to a couple of weeks etc).. and then they might right you up again and ask you to go work somewhere else.. etc and you can say no and stuff, but I think it will be pretty good because I will be experiencing different types of jobs at different places.

But thanks for your advice. it's good to know that there are other people out there who had no idea what they wanted to do, and are now doing so well. Beause right now I feel like I'm not going to get anywhere either.

It is easy to feel like you're not getting anywhere! That sounds like a good idea though, doing lots of different things might help you to find what you want to do! :p That's a good thing about agencies, allowing you to try different things without committing several years to!

Have you ever thought about voluntary work? :-p I love singing it's praises.
