Spoiler: click to toggle There was a lot of religion based stuff in the books. The Magisterium was a Catholic organisation, but that was all cut out for the films! I suppose it's for fear of backlash, although that was where all the depth and colour was in the book. It was a really, really important strand. Also, they cut out about four chapters. Including a massive fight where Lee Scoresby died.
You are wrong about Lee Scoresby he dies in the 3rd book not the 1st :P I know because I am in the middle of reading the 3rd one :P I liked the film yeah. But a lot of it was changed form the book. Like tromana said in the quote there was a lot of religion stuff in it and the ending was changed greatly, I really do not know how they will carry it on. But that is all I am going to say :P If you want to know more read the book :P
Spoiler: click to toggle It's been a while since I read them. Um... oh yes, it's in the world with spectres isn't it? And Hester *sniffs* They still cut out 3 chapters though.
It was the kid they killed... to break down the walls in the first place *facepalm*

Spoiler: click to toggle yeah, it was sad. Wonder how they're going to deal with Roger at the beginning of the 2nd film now? It's not as if he's going to be around for long. I suppose it'd make quite a good pre-credits sequence...
