I dont know man, the thought of giving money to such a piece of shit wouldnt go well with me

If I ever meet Noam Chomsky, someones gonna have to hold me back. Its beyond intellectual debate at this point, I dont even think hes capable of it. Ive seen him get destroyed, and what he does is just ramble and mumble about how the united states did something typical of big government (aka immoral) and tries to say thats an example of how capitalism makes our lives worse.

Like. fucking hell. How dumb do you have to be? To be honest, this bullshit technique is typically used by the uneducated (yet somehow "elite") left. If Noam is the smartest man in academia, then he should open a fucking dictionary and learn what corporatism is.

I think we are on a different page here. You will find no argument from me when it comes to the South. The Mises Institute is in the South. Most of the values that I hold are prominent in the South. And I do not by any means consider southerners to be rednecks.

I am from Wisconsin, very much north. And this area is about 85% rednecks. Not southerners, rednecks.

My neighbors one house away, own about 14 rusted out vehicles.
And? What's wrong with that, and how does it affect you?

They drive their snowmobiles to class.
I would definitely do that if I could. It sounds awesome.

My neighbor would chew in class, and spit it in his mountain dew bottle.
My chemistry teacher does that sometimes. Again, I don't see a damn thing wrong with it. It doesn't affect you, and it's no reflection of his intelligence.

He killed racoons with a baseball bat and kept it in his front seat just in case.
I'd kill a raccoon with a baseball bat if it attacked me. Not for fun, but definitely for self-defense.

He has a gun rack in his truck which is jacked up about 36 inches.
That's fucking awesome. I love trucks and I love guns.

He drinks beer for breakfast.
So? How does that affect you again?

He reads at a 3rd grade level
Not all rednecks are stupid and not all stupid people are rednecks.

, and knows that Bush is good and liberal hippies are the devil.
If that's his political inclination, what of it? I seem to recall you saying you hated liberals and hippies too, so he's at least half right by your standards.

He listens to country and knows every song by heart.
Taste in music is one of the most subjective things in the world. You look down on him for liking country, and I look down on you for liking Rage Against heterosexuality the Machine. People like different kinds of music. I've been known to like a few country songs myself. Remember that country music was a precursor to rock and roll, and by extension metal, grunge, punk, and all other derivative.

This is what my area is like.

THIS is a redneck.
I am a redneck. If you come to my house, you'll see a rusty pick-up truck, a Confederate flag, multiple firearms, some dogs, multiple Jeff Foxworthy DVDs, many pairs of cowboy boots, and a collection of music that includes Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and The Allman Brothers. Being a redneck myself, I'm going to have to conclude that you don't know what you're talking about.

I don't consider it geographical by any means. I completely agree with you on the South, perhaps just not the definition of rednecks.

I think they are absolute idiots. It doesn't affect me necessarily except for the fact that I had to deal with them and have them lower my level of intelligence every day. I just think their way of life is retarded. I hate the obsession with trucks because it's pointless and a waste of money. I hate chew, because it's disgusting. I hate country because it's awful. I hate people that kill animals for fun, because there is seriously something wrong with that. I have never met a smart redneck, so to me they are a waste of space and air itself. And sure they hate liberals and hippies, but they worship the other side which is just as evil.

All of this stuff I just said it purely my opinion. Nothing else, and there is no reason to argue about that. I was just giving my reason for not liking them. Our argument is what constitutes a redneck.

I find a clear distinction between southern culture and rednecks. I live in a redneck town, they would probably call you a fag, and not a redneck. They don't know who the fuck Jeff Foxworthy is, they don't watch TV besides the Packers. They don't even have dvds. And cowboy boots? They don't wear cowboy boots, what's the use? They don't keep your feet warm, you can't wear them to the barn because the shit will pull them right off since you can't tie them. They wouldn't ever wear cowboy boots. Firearms? That has nothing to do with being a redneck. Everyone in my town owns firearms, it's just something we have. The same goes for dogs. As for rusted truck, everyone's vehicles in Wisconsin are rusted out because of our ridiculous winters. Redneck or not, you will have rust.

The people I'm talking about are considered rednecks here. They would not call you a redneck. And maybe your kind of people wouldn't call these people rednecks. What we are arguing is semantics. I don't consider you a redneck by our standards. Especially since you take pride in it, when people around here would punch you in the face if you called them a redneck.

i think every area of the us has people that are usually scumbags who are often called rednecks. Even if fami's definition of redneck is the correct one, and not anything bad. The people we call rednecks in north east pa have a lot of differences than what either of you mentioned. Our rednecks dont even like bush usually. Our rednecks dont say yall. We got yous, jeet and most importantly heyna.

heres a little video about our rednecks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sMI2jb16eo

There is only one correct usage of the term, though. It's like me describing Nicaraguans as Mexicans. There may be some similarities in terms of culture, but ultimately a Nicaraguan is not a Mexican.

The term itself comes from the descendents of Scottish and Irish Presbytarians. These people wore red clothing on their necks to signify their protest of the bishop-ruled Church of England. These are the people that settled the South and became the poorer, working class. These were the people working farms, fighting for the Confederacy, and running Moon shine. These are the people that were standing up for smaller government, lower taxes, and more individualism.

So to call these people that you so detest rednecks is an insult to my family and my culture. You said it yourself: these people you're referring to don't like to be called rednecks. And my people do, because we are rednecks.

I dont think people are generally interested in the historical meaning of it. the term redneck has come to mean low class white person with little to no hygiene. Even the farm stereotype seems to have gone out the window. the meaning of words always changes, for better or for worse.

While all of that may be very true, I disagree that there is only one correct usage of the term.

I showed you that we are clearly talking about different folk here, and as a matter of fact I think we have many similarities. Since I am not referring to the same people, you should not be insulted for my hatred of these idiots. I haven't insulted you at all, and actually like you a lot.

I have my definition of a redneck, and you have yours. It is a derogatory term here, as I think it is most places. What we would call you is Southerners, which is a very very very respectable thing in most people's eyes, especially in my family. We general consider Southerners to be individualistic, small government, respectable, generally christian, gun loving, hospitable people with a lot of common sense. I like the South very much, so it should be clear that I'm not insulting you.

Again, there is only one correct usage. It would be like me calling a Chinese person a nigger. It just doesn't make sense.

And I don't take this personally or anything, and I know you aren't meaning and offense by it. It's just that you're using a term that many people self-identify with in a positive manner to describe people you believe to be the scum of the earth.
