This is one of the better conferences in college football, but they constantly get dumped on. It's ridiculous.

Utah is 12-0. They're going to play in a major BCS bowl game.
Texas Christian University is 10-2. The only teams they lost to were Oklahoma and Utah.
Brigham Young University is 10-2. They only lost to Texas Christian and Utah.
Air Force is 8-4. They lost to the three above teams, and Navy.
Colorado State is 6-6. They lost to the four above teams, plus Colorado and California.

That's a damn strong conference. All four of those teams are going to play in a bowl game, but the people in the polls that decide things still fuck the Mountain West.

Consider this: Utah is ranked behind USC. USC lost one game, to Oregon State. Utah beat Oregon State. Utah beat the only team that USC lost to, but somehow USC is the better team. Utah beat everyone they played, but the Associated Press has them ranked number 8 in the country. 6 out of the 7 teams ranked ahead of them have lost a game.

There are six "BCS Conferences". The winners of these six conferences automatically get a BCS bid, which allows them to play in one of the five major bowls at the end of every year (Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, Orange, and BCS National Championship). These are the six conferences:
SEC
Big 12
ACC
Big East
Big Ten
Pac 10

Despite the fact that the Mountain West obliterated the Pac 10 in head to head play this year, the Pac 10 still gets an automatic bid because the people doing the polls consider it a "stronger conference".

The best teams in the ACC and Big East have lost 2 or 3 games each. The Big 10 is perpetually overrated, as we have seen the past two years when Ohio State breezed through their pathetic schedule only to get raped in the national championship game by a team from a real conference (The SEC).

The way I see it, the Big 12 is the undisputed best conference this year. Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Kansas are all very strong teams. Second is the SEC. LSU and Florida have won the past two national championship games, and Georgia is a damn strong team as well. Alabama is number one in the nation, and they're the only team from a BCS conference that hasn't lost a game. So who's third? You're crazy if you think it's the ACC, Big East, Pac 10, or Big 10. The only possible answer is the Mountain West Conference.

So, the Mountain West gets dumped. Why? Because the teams in it aren't as good? Fuck no. It's because the teams all play in smaller markets. Nobody gives a shit about Colorado Springs, Colorado or Provo, Utah. It's hard for the BCS to make money off teams that play in small markets. If you're going to be a small market, your team better be a way of life for the residents (Nebraska, Alabama, and Oklahoma for example).

So what is the Mountain West going to to about it? Well, they're talking about absorbing the two best teams from the Western Athletic Conference (another non-BCS conference). These two teams are Boise State (who is also undefeated) and Fresno State (who is usually ranked in the top 25). If the Mountain West were to absorb these two teams, then no one could deny the conference champion an automatic BCS bid. Utah is getting a BCS bid this year, but that's because they're in the top 8 in the BCS rankings, not because they won a conference championship.

Incidentally, Boise State is getting a pretty big screw-job at the moment too. There are four undefeated teams in the country right now.
Alabama, who is ranked number one. It's where they deserve to be.
Utah, who is going to get a BCS bid simply because it would be a travesty if they didn't.
Ball State, who hasn't played any strong teams and has barely beaten the ones they've played.
And Boise, who has beaten teams from the Pac 10.

If Boise State is going to get into a BCS game, they absolutely have to have Oregon State lose their next game. Oregon State is in position to win the Pac 10, and as such they'll automatically qualify. USC is going to get an at-large bid because they're in the top eight. But if Oregon State loses, they don't get a BCS bid because then USC would win the Pac 10. Boise is ranked ahead of Oregon State, so they'd get a BCS bid instead.

So if Oregon State wins, then Boise has to play in a shitty bowl like the Papajohns.com bowl or something like that. Boise will miss the BCS, despite being ranked ahead of three teams who get to play in the BCS:
Oregon State, who will get in via winning the Pac 10
Cincinnati, who will get in via winning the Big East
and whomever wins the ACC. Boise is currently ranked ahead of EVERY team in the ACC.

So, despite being better than those teams, Boise will get fucked because the people who like money decided that the fans would rather watch a team from Ohio or Florida.

If the Mountain West absorbs Boise and Fresno, they'll get an automatic BCS bid. They'll have to, because they'll have 5-6 (Utah, Brigham Young, Texas Christian, Boise State, Fresno State, and possibly Air Force) teams out of 11 in the conference ranked in the top 25.

This concludes a massive rant.

Of course. But they make far too much money off the bowls for that to happen.
