Is it live, or is it Dave-orex? Posts: 7,981 Group: Admins Member #10 Joined: Jul 24, 2008	I just got a card in the mail today from the State of Alabama Personnel Dept. It said I have to go to a local jr. high school and take the examination test for the IT Systems Technician Sr position. If and when I pass this test I have a few folks that already work for the state who can get my name pushed up the list of available names. This is a pretty sweet deal. mon-fri 9-5 benefits the day I start 13 paid holidays a year + 2 weeks personal vacation time full time salary starting @ 50,000 a year. I'll be doing basically the technical work that I've been doing now but it won't be customer facing and I'll be overseeing a few other guys as well. I hope this happens. I need to get out of retail for good.

If I get a Masters degree, that instantly goes up. And if you coach a sport, which I will, you can add 5,000 dollars per year. 44,000 isn't bad at all for a first year teacher.

The problem right now is that the test is the saturday after thanksgiving. Big big big shopping weekend. I hope I don't get any shit from Best Buy about needing that saturday morning off. I'll work that night so it won't be like I'm asking for the whole day or anything.

I've learned the logic behind pretty much all the subjects of this test from either school or working for Geek Squad for 3 years. I did get the day off to take it and it's not hard to find (I've never been to the place they're giving the test at). I'll go down, take the test (about 3 hours in length) and it'll get graded which takes 4-6 weeks. I'll be put into a band based on how well I do in the test compared to other people who've taken it. There's no objective best score unless someone perfected it and screwed up the curve. I need to get in band 1. Once I'm there I have 3 state employees that can commence dropping my name to personnel. Hopefully, everything will pan out and I'll be set for life.
