The No. 1 priority, Obama said, is to get Congress to approve an economic stimulus plan that would extend jobless benefits, send food aid to the poor, dispatch Medicaid funds to states and spend tens of billions of dollars on public works projects.

God dammit.

Oh, and this just in: Obama's chief of staff used to be on the board of directors at Freddie Mac (the federal mortgage firm partially responsible for the current crisis).
FDR did the same thing during the 30s. I see major morale improvements.
FDR extended the Great Depression by years.
Doing nothing wouldn't of changed anything at all. The people are what matter, not the wealth of the country
and what he did didnt change anything, but made it worse.

The people suffered as a result of government intervention. The people would have corrected the market if FDR had not fucked everything up.

And it never would have happened in the first place if not for the government creating the Federal Reserve and institutiing anti-trust laws.

No... The Right Wing implies a restriction on personal behavior and religious influence on the government.

No... The Right Wing implies a restriction on personal behavior and religious influence on the government.
It also means to be conservative or a neolibertarian.

I dislike both of these ways of control, which apply heavily in the Republican Party.

No... NeoLibertarianism has nothing to do with the Right Wing, and conservatism has varying definitions. Right Wing as it is understood in America applies to the Evangelical wing of the Republican Party.

It stands for a conservative way of running the government in the UK.

loopy considering you were completely overwhelmed i would argue that the only thing funny in this thread was your attempt at trying to define styles of economies.

furthermore, it seems like you keep trying to peck at this, which should be a corpse. I think this goes on to show that you realize you dont have the wits to argue with fami and I, but you still want to "win" this argument via cheapshots (which is often what cowards/intellectually inferior people do; merely laughing etc). I only point this out because thats one thing that really gets under my skin and causes me to really be a jerk.

Obama already rescinded his remarks about forced community service.

He pretty much said that he wants gas prices to go back up (!), but it's okay because he's sending us a thousand dollar welfware check (which will help nothing, by the way).

Community service is something the college should require, not the federal government. I don't mind having high schools require some sort of community service, but again, I do mind if it is the federal government requiring the service.

And you would be wrong, this thread is much funnier for a much more different reason.

Obama's first plan to change our nation is already in motion, and boy is it a doozy. The President-elect is proposing mandatory community service for students. Middle school and high school student will be required to put in 50 hours of community service a year, while college students are expected to perform 100 hours. The quote from Obama's camp can be found here: http://www.examiner.com/x-536-Civil-Liberties-Examiner~y2008m11d7-Obamas-compulsory-service-proposal-becomes-explicit.

As a college student, I refuse.
Pay me, and dont make it mandatory.

It affects high schoolers and middle schoolers. And God knows that most American kids need to be disciplined somehow. The best public school systems are socialist in that regard.

But I agree, college students shouldn't have to do anything they don't want to.

Fuck that.

So, under Obama we've already seen the following:
1. Russia being more aggressive when it comes to weapons
2. The US stock market taking a huge hit
3. The Euro hitting a decade low
4. The loss of many, many American jobs
5. The promise of more government intervention in the gaming industry

And now, forced and unpaid labor. And he won't even take office for another few months.

Change, indeed. It's all part of Comrade Obama's master plan for us all.
None of these are any of his fault.
