This is easily the worst list I've ever seen. By far. Look at their rankings: 1. Abraham Lincoln 2. George Washington 3. Franklin Roosevelt 4. Thomas Jefferson 5. Theodore Roosevelt 6. Dwight Eisenhower 7. Harry Truman 8. Ronald Reagan 9. James Polk 10. Woodrow Wilson 11. John F. Kennedy 12. Lyndon B. Johnson 13. John Adams 14. Andrew Jackson 15. James Madison What the fuck kind of terrible list is that? Lincoln got us involved in the Civil fucking War. FDR prolonged the Great Depression by years. Teddy Roosevelt regulated everything in sight. Eisenhower was a great general, but his domestic policies were just a continuation of FDR's. Harry Truman got us involved with NATO and the United Nations, and nuked two Japanese cities. Woodrow Wilson literally caused the Great Depression with the anti-trust legislation, the creation of the Federal Reserve, and got us involved in World War I. JFK accomplished nothing, nearly killed us all, sent the first troops into Vietnam, and made Iraq what it is today. Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society policies took a major toll on the economy, stole good taxpayer money, and skyrocketed inner-city violence. Here is how my list looks: 1. Thomas Jefferson 2. George Washington 3. Grover Cleveland 4. Ronald Reagan 5. Calvin Coolidge Edited by famicommander, Monday Nov 3 2008, 09:52 AM.

WTF is wrong with you? Lincoln stopped slave labour! Sure, he was a racist and caused a civil war but he helped stop the slave trade. Would you really place the economy over human rights? And what is so bad about the UN and NATO?

dont assume that every person in the south had slaves, most people didnt have them. The Civil War was about much more than slavery, and if you were going to go back in time and ask people slavery might be one of the least common reasons cited. Abraham just wanted the blacks out of the country from what I recall. |

From Wikipedia - The American Civil War (1861–1865), also known as the War Between the States and several other names, was a civil war in the United States of America. Eleven Southern slave states declared their secession from the U.S. and formed the Confederate States of America (the Confederacy). Led by Jefferson Davis, they fought against the U.S. federal government (the "Union"), which was supported by all the free states and the five border slave states. In the presidential election of 1860, the Republican Party, led by Abraham Lincoln, had campaigned against the expansion of slavery beyond the states in which it already existed. The Republican victory in that election resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took office on March 4, 1861. Both the outgoing and incoming U.S. administrations rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. It seems to agree with what I just said. To sum up, this was about slavery. Yes, it eventually developed into other means, but the slave trade was still the main reason for the civil war. Edited by LoOpY, Monday Nov 3 2008, 01:34 PM.

He only freed the slaves in Confederate States. The rest weren't freed until after his death. He did it solely to cripple the Southern economy, and he did it at the expense of over 800,000 American lives. |

The main reason for the Civil War was the north wanting to cripple the Southern economy. This amounted to ending slavery simply because the South controlled the plantations and therefore the bulk of the money and power in the country. The Union government was full of power-hungry war mongerers. Every country on Earth ended slavery without a war except America. Figure it out. |

Your forgetting that the US, even back then, is one of the most powerful nations in the world! A war would've been inevitable considering the amount of wealth up for grabs. America depended on Slave labour as one of its main sources of income at the time, where as places like Britain were going through an industrial revolution. No, war was not inevitable. If Lincoln had just let slavery die out gradually instead of trying to destroy it all at once, the war would have never happened. |

Lincoln didn't start the war.... The South and the North had been building tensions since even before the Revolution. I disagree with Loopy that it was about slavery, but I agree with him that a war was inevitable. |

The tensions were there, but no, war was not inevitable. All they had to do was not directly threaten the South repeatedly. |
