![]() The long awaited sequel to Fable has finally arrived, is it as awesome as the original? Short answer yes, long answer: Fable 2 defines what all sequels should aspire to be, better than the original in almost all ways possible, and since Fable's huge feature was good or evil and how it effects the world around you, Fable 2 amps it up a couple thousand notches. For instance, you can buy every single business, house, castle, and tower in the game, to do this feat, you need 2.5 million gold. And to help you do this, when you buy a business, you get a cut of the profits made, and you can be a dick and ramp up the prices to get you more money. As you get more renown, the expressions you use on people have more effect, and the more saintly you become, the better the economy in the towns do, as where if you're evil the towns become run down, have more prostitutes, and more bandits attack. It's all of these things and more which make you think more about the decisions you make. Also, this game makes it incredibly difficult to be a goody goody, and I mean incredibly difficult, as people will make you pay if you don't make an evil decision every once in a while. But besides evil and good, you can be pure or corrupt, playing a Lute for the common folk nets you pure points while boosting prices on the shops you own nets you corrupt points. And instead of love and hate, people can find you funny or fear you, and find you ugly or attractive. The combat has also gotten an upgrade, putting points in strength makes you more muscular, points in skill makes you taller, and points in will makes you veins glow. You can learn more skills such as sub-targeting which can let you decapitate enemies if you're good enough, or even counters. You can specialize in one tree of skills if you really want to, but you're a more effective killing machine if you invest in all 3, which is easy because the button layout is incredibly simple. ![]() If someone says this game looks bad, they're lying. The game uses great use of color, which is almost mandatory, because the polygon count is low, but you won't notice unless you're really looking close. The spell effects aren't that spectacular, but the environment really shines. The story takes you to a great many locales, I wont say where, but lets say that the important places you went to in Fable, you go to similarly similar places. You meet very little characters you have strong emotions for during the main storyline, reviewers say that the dog is the character that you will care the most about, I disagree, the only reason to keep him healthy is that he finds treasure for you, and occasionally kill an enemy. There isn't much you can do with the dog either, play fetch, praise or punish him, and heal him is all the expressions you can use on him, he can join in on your expressions and you can give him collars, but that gets old after the first time. The villain is probably the best character in this game, he makes only a couple of appearances, but every time he comes up on your screen you better be ready for eventful cut scenes and great dialogue. There are very little cons in this game, during the first half of the game you will not die, but right as the second half begins the difficulty smacks you in the face. But don't worry, the only things that happens when you die is you lose the experience orbs that are on the ground that you haven't picked up yet, and you get a scar. That's it. Then you get right back up, no loading checkpoints or anything. Combine this with the fact that your spells have no down time and you have infinite willpower, you can say hello to Easy McEase town. ![]() Life is easy when you don't have to worry about dieing. Another small gripe is the inventory screen could have been fleshed out more, it's slow and when you use 1 item you get kicked out to the game and have to scroll through all your items again. But despite those small gripes when you get sucked in, it never lets go. And this is the most obvious in how the story is told, to be as vague as possible, near the end, your hero will reflect on his life to a simpler time, and it's depressing as all hell because at that point in the game you know what comes soon after, and to make it even worse, the name of the quest during that time is "A perfect world". Those sick bastards. Overall, this game is a masterpiece in all senses of the word and it even makes it's own definitions for the hell of it. The smartest choice you can make in the game is to play it at all costs. Score: 9.7/10 |

What I'd like to know is how many hours you've put into the game. 'Cause I need a good, long Action RPG to sink my teeth into but I heard that this, like the first one, isn't particularly lengthy. Nice review by the way. |

Thanks, I'd say I've put in about 30 hours and counting, and I still have side quests to do, houses and castles to buy. I want to try and do everything I can, owning every house and business in the game sounds fucking awesome to me. I got the game on Thursday and played it practically non-stop until about 2 hours ago, there are longer RPGs out there, but you'd be hard pressed to find a more fleshed out RPG than this one imo. It also has quite a bit of replay value as well. |

Interesting. I was turned off because of Fable 1's mediocre (in comparison to the hype) amount of features and gameplay, but now I'm considering getting it because like you said, there aren't many RPG's out there for the 360.

Actually there are many diverse selection of RPGs for the 360, and many people were turned off by Fable's hype, but I assure you that Fable 2 is miles better. |

Epic review, Deadly. From my time so far with Fable 2, I couldn't agree with you any more. Fable 2 makes the first Fable look like a piece of shit in comparison; even though there were some slight letdowns with Fable 2, it did a much better job of living up to the hype than Fable did. |

Nice review...a little too generous though. The framerate is one of the worst on the 360. The inventory layout is AWFUL. There's about 15 NPC's in the game. In Bowerstone, there is no more than 10 and so there are the exact same people everywhere. When I wake up in my house, there's about 9 of the exact same NPC's standing around my bed. The game obsesses over consequences for actions, yet there are practically NO consequences for dying. Also, the main story is way too short. Besides those things, awesome game. |
