This is a feature I've decided to steal from the Atari Age forums.

Basically, we all decide upon a game to play. Then we see who can get the highest score. That's about it. I'm going to lay down some ground rules though:

1. This is strictly honor system. If you have to make up scores to impress random people over the internet with your video game scores in order to win arbitrary and prizeless competitions, you should probably just kill yourself right now.

2. We'll only be using games from the third through fifth generations. Nothing older than the NES and nothing newer than the Nintendo 64.

3. We'll start out with more common games.

4. Ports of older games (PSN, XBLA, GameTap, compilation discs, and VC) are allowed. Just no original games from newer systems.

5. Since most of you don't own the original systems or legitimate copies of the games, using an emulator will be permitted. But doing so will instantly reduce your score by 25%, and you are not allowed to use the built-in cheats that many emulators contain. Also, I get to call you a faggot for using an emulator.

6. The club for each game will run for a week before a winner is crowned.

7. You can submit as many scores as you want throughout the week. We'll only count your final.

So, start nominating your game now. Be sure to list the title, the version (if the versions for other consoles are different) and which platforms it can be played on.

My vote:
Metal Slug (available on Neo Geo, Wii, PS2, PSP, Xbox, XBLA, Virtual Console, GameTap [for free]).

This is a very common game that you'll be able to acquire legally, and for free if you don't already have it. Just register for a GameTap account and download it for free.

You can either vote for Metal Slug or nominate your own game.

What the fuck why should I have my score reduced just because I don't own every game in the off chance that you call a game that I don't have?

It's to force you to buy games that nobody plays so you can change the past! i.e. jews did it.

Because emulation is theft and they often provide advantages over the conosle versions (better frame rates, for example).

I've never played Metal Slug so I am going to be epic fail.

Here are some of my nominations:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS, SAT, PSN, XBLA, PSP)

- Ritcher runs take about 15 minutes, Alucard about 50-60 minutes.
- I nominate it solely for the reason that I've had practice.

Super Mario World (SNES, GBA, VC)

- Everyone has it.
- Runs through the fastest route take 15-20 minutes.

Doom: Knee Deep in the Dead (PC)

- It's shareware and still available: http://files.filefront.com/Doom+Shareware/;3509875;/fileinfo.html
- Everyone's computer will run it.
- More great, accessible and non-time consuming speed running possibilities.
- It gives you a screen-cappable time (and stats) at the end of every level.

Also, how the fuck have you never played Metal Slug?

Either way, you have a whole week before final scores are tallied (if Metal Slug is our first game).

I don't have Super Mario World...

But I do have Metal Slug anthology for Wii. I'm pretty sure that's emulation but I paid for it so there shouldn't be any score deductions in that case...

I think I'll just wait until someone calls out a game that I own.

So that's 3 for Metal Slug. I think that wins, because you nubs keep forgetting that I have Linux. PC games almost always fail.

And it got the most votes anyway.

And as far as the emulation goes, legal emulation is fine. You gain no advantage and you haven't stolen anything.

GameTap is fine too, and you can get Metal Slug from there for free just by downloading the software.

Saturday at noon Mountain Time will be the deadline. Go ahead and start posting your best scores for Metal Slug 1.

Yes, Deadly. That's it alright.

My first score: 501,289

Weak first run. I let too many hostages get away.

I've only played metal slug once before when i was 8, I don't think I'll be getting 500,000, unless I stay up until 5 o clock in the morning..

Well hell its a friday.

You've got over a week to get good at it. It's not a hard game to pick up, it's just hard to master. 500,000 isn't a great score by any means.
