The AFL is going to be back on ESPN next year. ESPN will air 11 live games during the regular season, plus a conference title game and the Arena Bowl. They will also air 73 other games live for free on ESPN3.com.

And the AFL retains their old TV partner, CBS Sports Network. They will air a live national game of the week plus a playoff game and the remaining conference title game.

This means that, for the first time in league history, every game will be available live, nationally. They aren't using any stupid proprietary streaming apps anymore, they aren't showing just the teams in big markets anymore, they aren't only showing one game a week nationally anymore, teams don't need to seek out local cable TV deals anymore (but they still can if they want to).

This is the best thing to happen to the league since they rose out of bankruptcy.

The San Antonio Spurs have bought the Talons, the San Antonio AFL team. They are moving them from the ridiculously oversized Alamodome and putting them in the Spurs' NBA arena, so this is more good news. The more super rich dudes investing in the AFL, the better.
