That isn't reasoning, that's rationalization. The "reasoning" was that Activision-Blizzard wanted to limit piracy and used game sales so they figured it was okay to punish normal users. You rationalized it by saying it's okay because they already have your information anyway and that people who don't play online shouldn't want to play at all.

I never ONCE said it's OK because they have my "information"

I said that I see the reasoning behind it because nearly everyone who plays Diablo is fucking connected to the internet anyway. WHICH IS TRUE.

this is classic shit right here

You don't see the reasoning, you've accepted the practice and then rationalized it away. The ONLY reasoning that went into this decision is ActiBlizzard reasoning that they can make more money off this practice. The idea that most people who play Diablo are connected to the internet anyway is both irrelevant to the point of why DRM is an issue in the first place and also a rather large concession that PC gamers seem to be willing to make to Blizzard but would certainly not do the same for Ubisoft, who does basically the same thing and (rightfully) catches endless shit for it.

1. Why the fuck would I need an internet connection for something like Splinter Cell or Anno 2070? THERE ISN'T A REASON. They do infact deserve endless shit for it because not only is it a bother, they outright LIE about implementation and secretly sneak it in their games. It's why I'm holding off on Rayman for 2 reasons 1, to make sure they don't pull this shit again and 2, to make sure that I get a good deal at the summer/spring sale. Whichever comes first.

2. Diablo has and always will be, a game centered around the online portion. Ask any hardcore Diablo player and what are their best memories? Online. Online this. Online that. ALWAYS ONLINE. I don't agree with Blizzards implementation but I see their reasoning behind it. When the entire base of your game has been online centered since the days of dial-up I understand why this choice was made.

In the end, I'm still going to buy it if only because I enjoy the online aspect of partying up with friends and dungeon smashing. Torchlight came close to evolving this formula but there isn't anything officially supported that isn't a community mod.

SG, I'm still deciding what my "May" game will be as I'm catching up on my steam backlog for the time being and have pledged myself to not buy anything unless I absolutely know I'm going to play it then and NOW. If not in May my birthday is in June and I'll ask for it as gift.
Right on, just let me know.

Wait

this game has always online DRM for single player
you cannot pause the game even in single player
if you idle too long they boot you

didn't even know about all that
You can pause the game in the Beta, as long as you are playing single player. While playing single player you have the option to open the game up to the public, and if you do so then you cannot pause the game.

We will see if this persists in the release version.

I don't really mind the always online DRM, as my internet connection is up about 95% of the time. And like Ron said, I plan on mainly playing with others online anyways. I'll probably solo it at first so I can take my sweet time immersing myself in it. It would be nice to have an offline play option, but not having that really doesn't bother me.
