Avs win third straight, beating the piece of shit Red Wings on their own ice 4-3. The Lando-O'Reilly-Downie line continues to kick all amounts of ass, finishing the game with a combined three goals, five assists, +9, and 15 shots.

Avs announce a trade: "COL acquires Jamie McGinn, Mike Connolly, and Michael Sgarbossa from SJ for Daniel Winnik, TJ Galiardi, and a seventh round pick."

Definitely a "wait and see" type of trade. Losing Gali sucks, but he deserves a change of scenery. I think he'll flourish in McLellan's system. Winnik, from a playoff standpoint, is the bigger loss. A huge key to our recent success has been due to the PK and I hope we can keep pace with such an important piece now missing.

I haven't seen a whole lot of McG, but nearly every Sharks fan seemed to be high on him, which is always a good sign. If nothing else, we just got even MORE difficult and frustrating to play against, which is hard to believe. Reading about the prospects' success also sweetens the deal, despite both of them being centremen.

My biggest concern is team morale going into tonight. Sure, Gali was going to be a healthy scratch, but he (and Winnik for that matter) was just SO well-liked by everyone... I hope his sudden absence doesn't deter anyone from going out and giving it their all come game time. Space being cleared for Mueller to play is definitely a relief, however.

No kidding. It was a pretty tame trade deadline this year. 15 total trades, the lowest amount in at least 5 seasons.

With their 4-game winning streak in hand, the Avs are now tied for the final playoff spot and are (shockingly) only 1 point behind San Jose and 3 behind Chicago. They've transformed into a completely different team since Downie was acquired, playing with more passion than I've seen from them in years.

Huge win for the Avs tonight. Lando with the OT goal, despite having the flu. Kid's a fucking warrior.

A lot of games tonight that could affect whether the Avs make the playoffs
Calgary vs Minnesota
Colorado vs Phoenix
Vancouver vs Dallas
St Louis vs Los Angeles
Boston vs San Jose

Hopefully Minnesota, Colorado, Vancouver, St Louis, and Boston all get it done. The Avs still have games in hand against the entire Western Conference, so we need a few teams close to us in the race to start losing.

Alright, so the Avs can make the playoffs only if:
-They win their last two games against Columbus and Nashville
-Dallas loses to either Nashville or St. Louis in regulation OR loses to both in OT/SO
-San Jose loses both of its final two games against Los Angeles

I think Dallas is going to lose both of those games, so it's between the Avs and Sharks. The Kings own the Sharks so a sweep is entirely possible, but at the same time San Jose has a lot of veterans. The Avs should be fine against Columbus but Nashville is tough.

Really hard to predict what is going to happen. I would love to see the Avs sneak in.

Bruins are locked into the 2 seed in the East. Time to see if they can pull off another playoff run.

So the Avs are (almost definitely) going to miss the playoffs for the second straight season... the first time in franchise history. With no first round pick, it's going to be a hellacious offseason for us Avs fans. Fucking bummer.

At least I have the Pens/Flyers series to look forward to...

We'll have a much clearer idea of what is going to happen tonight.

If Dallas loses to Nashville, they're eliminated.
If we lose to Columbus, we're eliminated.
If San Jose wins, both Dallas and Colorado are eliminated.

I think it will work out for us tonight. It's going to come down to NSH @ COL and LA @ SJ if you want my prediction.

Well, Dallas lost. So that's good.

But the Avs are down 4-2 with 2 minutes left in the second. If we don't come back and win it doesn't matter whether the Sharks lose or not.

Jets did pretty good this season. I made it to one game last month (vs. Dallas). Was pretty sloppy but the noise was deafening.
