Brian Dawkins retired today.

I wish he would've won a Super Bowl before he went out. Totally deserved it.

All the best. Guy was a monster and had just about as good of a career as anyone can have without accomplishing a Super Bowl win. I was happy to hear he'll be staying in CO. Seems a lot of athletes fall in love with Denver, and for damn good reason.

The Saints GM allegedly had a listening device planted in the opposing locker room from 2002-2004, and it was used to listen to opposing coaches' pregame talks. If true, he and the Saints are even more fucked than they were after the bounty scandal (though Payton should be safe). Rumor has it that federal law was violated too, though the statute of limitations has run out on that if the dates are correct.

Cheat to win, baby. Cheat to win. That entire organization is a joke. The only thing they deserve is a 20-year Super Bowl drought.

Pretty stoked for the draft after hearing Elway is going into it with a philosophy of BPA. Doug Martin in the first, Devon Still in the second. Give Manning another explosive weapon and solidify the pass rush.

I would much rather see them go defense. We are paper thin on the front seven.

Brockers, Worthy, Poe? I could see any of them going at #25.

Brockers, Cox, and Poe are already off the board. It is looking like either Worthy at 25 or waiting until the second round and picking a DE/LB/RB/DB/C in the first.

Looks like the Broncos traded down.

We gave our #25 for the Patriots #31 and a fourth rounder, apparently.

Not a bad trade depending on what we do with it.

Traded down again.

Our #31 and #126 for Tampa's #36 and #101.

We seem to be stockpiling 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounders.

Patriots were more aggresive than usual this year, trading up twice to get Chandler Jones (DE) and Dont'a Hightower (LB). The Pats desperately needed front 7 help, and these guys are both highly rated and should contribute rather quickly. I imagine they'll trade down one of their 2nd rounders tomorrow, but with the other I hope they get a safety to really shore up their defense even further.

Disagree. If we are going DT the same guys are going to be there. Nobody took one from 25-32. Indy, Baltimore, and St Louis are the only teams picking ahead of us in the second and none are taking a DT.

So we essentially get to take Worthy at 36 instead of 25 and we got a few extra picks to boot.

That, and something tells me we might be trading up for a third second rounder.

I think we come out of this thing with a starter at DT, possibly Lamar Miller at RB, and some extra DE/LB to boot.

Should be a very good draft

Yeah, drafting strictly by the board, blah blah. I'm not upset with the philosophy. Fact is we traded the 25th pick for the 36th and 101st, while Baltimore traded their 29th for the 35th and 98th. We essentially traded out of the first round for a fourth round pick and look quite foolish as far as trade value goes. Maybe I'm just pissed off at getting cockteased for three fucking hours...

1. If it’s about the Super Bowl, whould the Broncos be helping Bill Belichick get the player he wants? By allowing the Pats to move up from No. 31 to No. 25, they got inside linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

So people understand, the 6-foot-2, 265-pound Hightower was not a good fit in the Broncos’ 4-3 scheme. He’s way too big for the Will linebacker position, and the Broncos just paid middle linebacker Joe Mays a $4 million salary for 2012. And behind Mays is Nate Irving, a third-round pick in 2011. The Broncos are also set at defensive end with Elvis Dumervil, Robert Ayers/Von Miller and set at Sam lienebacker with Miller.

But with the Pats, Hightower is an ideal inside linebacker for their 3-4 defense. Had the Pats not jumped to take Hightower, he would have gone to Baltimore at No. 29. And the Ravens, like the Pats, are on the Broncos’ schedule this year. So what difference does it make, you ask?

Belichick is the difference. He’s the guy to beat in the NFL, much less the AFC. His Pats just hammered the Broncos’ twice in 2011. Now you just gave him a player to help stop Peyton Manning? Belichick and Tom Brady were 8-4 lifetime against Manning and the Colts.

2.A 4th round pick is not enough for all the draft gymnastics. This is the special-teamer/development round. Sure, a starter can pop through in a year or two, but there’s a reason why undrafted rookies make every roster every year. And that reason is there often isn’t that much difference between a fourth rounder and player who is just outside the draft.

3. If the players the Broncos targeted for the No. 25 overall pick are still there at No. 36, how good are those players? The trick is to find a top 15 talent that slides to No. 25, like Clay Matthews III did for Green Bay at No. 26 in 2009.
All excellent points.

Dunno about Osweiler though

I don't see anything wrong with the Pats grabbing Bequette at the end of the third round. The guy seems like a versatile, hard worker who fits the system well. Taking Tavon Wilson in the second round confuses me, though. Most scouts had him going as a late round draft pick or an UDFA, which by no means is a death knell on the guy's future career, but it begs the question, could the Patriots have waited for him? Belichick obviously sees something in him to take him so highly, and Wilson did work out for seven teams before the draft so its not like he was a total unknown, but mid second round seems like a big reach to me. Belichick did take an unknown tackle in the second round a few years back (Sebastian Vollmer), and in his second season he was named a second team All-Pro, so I guess I'll have to hope Belichick knows what he's doing here.

I keep hearing that if he had waited another year, he'd more than likely be a first round pick. Guy seems very grounded and intelligent, not to mention he's a damn giant. It'll undoubtedly do him some good studying under Manning for the next few years.
