The East is such a joke. Only six teams over. 500 and seven over .400. The West has ten over .500 and 12 over .400. |

The Celtics, minus Rondo and Allen, thrashed the Magic tonight, holding them to 56 points. No idea where that came from. |

So the Knicks and the Magic are discussing a trade that would send Dwight Howard to New York in exchange for Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler. Similarly, Deron Williams has already listed the Knicks as an organization he's interested in playing for AND he said that he wants to play wherever Dwight Howard will end up playing. Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Stoudemire really doesn't have many years left in him. He's been slowed down by knee problems significantly, and it's just a matter of time until they just won't hold up anymore. On the other hand, losing two big men suck. I know Chandler can put in work, and they won't really have any solid options for power forward. As for Deron Williams, all I know is that the Knicks absolutely need a good point guard. Douglas is above average for sure, but Williams would be great if they can land him. |

The Knicks would be fucking retarded not to make that trade. The Knicks aren't going anywhere this year regardless, but when you have a chance to land a player like Dwight Howard you fucking do it. Centers like that come along once in a decade, and Stoudemire was overrated even in his prime. Using the amnesty clause on Billups was a stupid move. Your team has no fucking point guard. But seriously, why did we even have a lockout? What did the Memphises and Milwaukees of the league get out of it? |

Prtty sure the small market teams were the ones bitching in the first place, exactly because of shit like James, Anthony, Bosh, Williams, Howard, and Paul holding entire franchises hostage. |

It's just about in the middle. Large compared to Indiana or Memphis, but not near New York, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, or Philly. |

The NBA may as well shut down all the small market teams, since they stand no chance competitively long term, aside from a year or two every decade or so. Once a player gets publicity, they all want to go to a big market team, like Carmelo and the Knicks, or Howard and some LA team or the Knicks. And then all the analysts act like it is a good thing for the league when it happens. |

It's because the league is so focused on "stars". The NBA itself goes to great lengths to put its stars on a pedestal, and as such a huge amount of any given player's ability to generate income lies with endorsements. The larger the market, the more endorsement potential. Compare that to MLB, the NHL, or the NFL where team branding always comes before individual branding. You don't see Crosby trying to slide into Toronto or New York. You didn't see Joe Sakic splitting to Los Angeles or Montreal. It's starting to become a bit of a problem in baseball, but that's mostly because the MLB Players Union is one of the most influential there is. That's what's wrong with the NBA, though. That and David Stern. |

Orlando was thrashing the Celts, until they somehow came back and one by eight by outscoring them by 29 in the second half. I don't know what it is, I guess the Celts just have their number, if nobody else's. Oh, and Rondo and Allen were still out. Edited by Cube_of_MooN, Thursday Jan 26 2012, 09:57 PM.

This probably won't be true long-term, but the Celts are somehow playing better without Rondo and Allen in the lineup. |

Nuggets have a tough stretch coming up. Next seven: 1/29 vs Clippers 1/31 @ Grizzlies 2/2 @ Clippers 2/3 vs Lakers 2/4 @ Blazers 2/6 vs Rockets 2/8 vs Mavericks All of those teams have winning records. And three games in three days against the Lakers, Clippers, and Blazers in three different cities is pretty bogus. Hopefully the Nuggets can come out of that stretch with four or five wins. |

I think this whole "small market teams are at a disadvantage" angle is really overblown. Big markets don't equate to success. Just look at the Knicks in the last ten years versus the Spurs. San Antonio is an incredibly small market and they have had massive success. Oklahoma City is one of the smallest markets in the league and they have been contenders every year. Memphis is getting there. Yeah some players like the spotlight of a big city, but some players want a winning team, and some players are just loyal. That's why OKC retained Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. They could've easily gone to big cities but they stuck it out cause they like playing for the organization, and let's be honest, OKC look like a safer bet to win a championship than the Celtics or Lakers right now. Yeah LeBron James left a small Cleveland market, but Miami is hardly a big market itself. In fact it ranks under Denver in market size. And Miami won a title recently and look poised to win another. The Knicks were trying to court LeBron HARD in his free agency and having the biggest star in the league in the biggest market in the league would've given the NBA a KILLING and James himself, given his ego, wouldve loved all that spotlight. But he didn't bite |
