And this is why the players will lose these negotiations.

They've known the lockout was coming for like three years, yet a seven year NBA vet is working at a fucking furniture store three months in.

What a bunch of spoiled bitches. No respect for the silly game that made them, no respect for the owners that make the league possible, no respect whatsoever. They can go enjoy making ends-meat at Costco or soaking in the over-polluted Chinese environment; I'll enjoy a legitimate professional sport like hockey.

The progress players and owners had been hoping for to save the 2011-12 NBA season did not materialize in collective bargaining talks on Tuesday, union president Derek Fisher said.

"We engaged in more intense discussions today to see if we can close what remains a very large gap," Fisher said Tuesday evening.

"Today was not the day to get this done. We were not able to get close enough to close the gap."

"There has been no discussion about next meetings," added union executive director Billy Hunter. "Maybe a month. Two months. Your guess is as good as mine."

The players, who received 57 percent of basketball-related income in the last year of the expired agreement, said they made a new proposal of 53 percent of BRI on Tuesday.

According to the players, the owners countered with 47 percent, a slight increase from the 46 percent they had previously offered.

When the league offered 47 percent, "that pretty much ended (the meeting)," Hunter said.

Owners and players began the bargaining sessions Tuesday afternoon, knowing if they failed to produce results, there may not be enough time left to avoid canceling regular-season games.

The sides first met among themselves, with the bargaining session starting in the early afternoon.

Fisher's teammate Kobe Bryant arrived Tuesday for the meetings, with Boston Celtics stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett among other players joining the union's executive committee.

They were sitting down with the labor relations committee of the owners, who locked out the players on July 1 when the sides were unable to agree to a new collective bargaining agreement.

The regular season is scheduled to open Nov. 1. Players would have reported to training camps Monday, but those were postponed and 43 preseason games scheduled for Oct. 9-15 were canceled last month.

The league locked out players on July 1 after the expiration of the old collective bargaining agreement. Seeking significant changes after saying they lost $300 million last season, owners want a new salary cap structure and are seeking to reduce the players' guarantee of basketball revenues from 57 percent, to perhaps 50 percent or below.

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Monday that six powerful player agencies sent a letter to their clients over the weekend warning them of the financial damage the current proposals would cause them, and urging them to demand a full vote on any proposed deal.

Commissioner David Stern said it would be difficult to have an 82-game regular season and not start Nov. 1, noting that arenas are already pressuring the league to see if they can schedule events later this year.

NEW YORK -- Commissioner David Stern says his "gut" tells him there will be no NBA games on Christmas without a labor deal by Tuesday.

Owners and players are to meet with a federal mediator that day. Owners are then scheduled to meet for board meetings Wednesday and Thursday.

Stern tells New York radio station WFAN that without an agreement Tuesday to bring to the owners "we potentially spiral into situations where the worsening offers on both sides make it even harder for the parties to make a deal."

Christmas is traditionally a big day of the NBA season. This year features the NBA Finals rematch between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.

NEW YORK -- NBA owners and players ended negotiations after about five hours Thursday, and no further discussions were scheduled.

""Ultimately we were unable to bridge the gap that separates the two parties," NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said. "We understand the ramifications of where we are. We're saddened on behalf of the game."

The two sides remained divided over two main issues -- the division of revenues and the structure of the salary cap system.

"Hopefully, we can get back to the table but certainly a tough day, a very tough day," labor relations committee chair Peter Holt said.

Previously each side had proposed receiving 53 percent of basketball-related income after players were guaranteed 57 percent under the previous collective bargaining agreement.

Silver said the league formally proposed a 50-50 revenue split on Wednesday, and the union moved from 53 percent to 52.5 percent on Thursday.

Asked whether the players would drop to 50 percent, Holt said he didn't think it was that big of a jump but that obviously the union did.

Holt said the league would not go above 50 percent "as of today, but never say never on anything."

The first two weeks of the season -- exactly 100 games -- already have been canceled. The season was supposed to begin Nov. 1, but all games through Nov. 14 have been scrapped, costing players about $170 million in salaries.

Commissioner David Stern has the flu and did not attend Thursday's negotiating session.

Owners and players met with federal mediator George Cohen for 16 hours Tuesday, ending around 2 a.m. Wednesday, then returned just eight hours later and spent another 8½ hours in discussions.

In a statement, Cohen said the two sides were not able to resolve the "strongly held, competing positions that separated them on core issues."

"In these circumstances, after carefully reviewing all of the events that have transpired, it is the considered judgment of myself and Deputy Director Scot Beckenbaugh, who has been engaged with me throughout this process, that no useful purpose would be served by requesting the parties to continue the mediation process at this time," Cohen said.

Also, while the sides haven't agreed to anything, the owners have been open to accepting a $5 million mid-level exception, sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard. That's down from $5.8 million under the old agreement but up from the $3.4 million the owners had been offering.

In other business, the Board of Governors re-elected Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor as its chairman and heard a presentation from New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov on the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which will become the Nets' home for the 2012-13 season.

Looks like we're going to have a cancelled season. The NBPA rejected the ultimatum proposed to them, and will decertify and file an antitrust lawsuit.

Idiots. They're going to end up with 47% of BRI and a hard cap now. Which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I called this when the lockout began.

Sounds like the players caved and a 66-game season will begin Christmas day. All it took was for them to miss a paycheck or two.

The deal still has to be approved by the union and the full owners committee, but it should go through.

Word on ESPN is actually that the owners relented, which is surprising, since they likely had the upper hand.

I am willing to bet that PR concessions were part of the players accepting the deal. Everyone knows who really won the negotiations, but the players will be able to look themselves in the mirror a bit easier if the media reports that they got some concessions.

Nuggets re-signed Nene today for five years.

They also acquired Rudy Fernandez AND Corey Brewer from Dallas for a 2016 2nd round draft pick, which is an absolute steal for the Nuggets. 2nd round picks are essentially worthless and Denver really needed some depth to replace the players they lost to China (Martin, Smith, Chandler). Dallas must've just been dumping salary or something.

If we can re-sign Arron Afflalo I like our chances at a playoff spot (likely 6-8 seed). Even losing what we have the last two seasons, the Nuggets have considerable depth
PG: Ty Lawson, Andre Miller
SG: Arron Afflalo, Rudy Fernandez, Jordan Hamilton (rookie)
SF: Danilo Gallinari, Corey Brewer, Gary Forbes (still a free agent)
PF: Al Harrington, Kenneth Faried (rookie)
C: Nene, Chris Andersen, Timofey Mozgov, Kosta Koufos

And we still have the rights to Wilson Chandler, so he will probably be back when the Chinese season is over in March.

This team is going to be young, fast, and deep. But they're definitely going to need Gallinari to start scoring 20+ PPG.
