If they desperately need a d-man, they could go after Kaberle. He was a disappointment for us, but if the Avs need to spend money to get up to the cap floor he'd be a decent option, as he could probably play on the first or second pairing no problem. A bit off topic but the Bruins got a pretty good defenseman at #9, and based on what I'm reading, he was projected to go higher. I'd say we go a pretty good haul for Phil Kessel now that the deal is pretty much over and done with. |

Good picks. Some potential diamonds in the rough, for sure. I'm just surprised they targeted even more centermen when they're still so light on winger prospects.

I like that we have a lot of options for our offensive lines next year. Jones - Stastny - Landeskog Mueller - Duchene - Hejduk Galiardi - O'Reilly - Winnick McCleod - McClement - Lindstrom/Olver/Porter/Dupuis And then there's Hishon, who will likely start the season at Lake Erie but can hopefully contribute. And hopefully Mueller can stay healthy. Again, another first or second line scorer would be Intense anal trauma. But I'm not worried about our offense (for once). We need a fucking goalie and another defenseman. |

I can't see the B's unloading Kaberle so soon. Besides, the Avs don't have any comparable assets to throw back Boston's way. I'd like to see him on the team, but I don't see it happening any time soon. And yeah, the Bruins lucked out with Hamilton. I could've seen him going at least a few spots higher. He's already a very good two-way blueliner and if he steps up his defensive game a bit, sky's the limit. Edited by Brokemon, Sunday Jun 26 2011, 01:44 PM.

Dammit, I accidentally deleted this post in response to Jason- Lando would be a force being fed by Stazz and supported by big-bodied Jones. I'd still like to see the potential chemistry between him and Dutchy, but I'd be just as happy seeing him consistently produce on the first line. Our defense is still pretty sad and in desperate need of a veteran: Quincey - EJ Wilson/UFA - O'Byrne Gaunce/Barrie - Elliott And if I do say so myself, the Avs have one of the best prospect pools in the league: 1. Landeskog 2. Hishon 3. Elliott 4. Pickard 5. Barrie 6. Siemens 7. Olver 8. Gaunce 9. Chouinard 10. Rutkowski Edited by Brokemon, Sunday Jun 26 2011, 01:49 PM.

Kaberle is an UFA, and it's doubtful the Bruins will re-sign him, since he didn't do so well for us and since he's going to cost a decent amount. |

Wow, wasn't aware of that. What the hell were the B's thinking signing a high-profile UFA that late into the season? Well, they ended up winning the Cup so they got their money's worth I guess. I still don't see them giving up on him so soon, unless they're strapped for cap space. If not, I'd love to see the Avs send an offer his way. He's consistent, and would be a perfect mentor to our young defensive core. |

Well, the majority of sportswriters seem to think that the B's are going to let him go (unless he signs for below his open market value), since in the playoffs he was more of a liability than a helper. The idea was to trade for him, improve the power play, and win the cup, signing him whenever possible. But, once he got here, the power play's effectiveness plummeted, as all saw in the playoffs. It worked out so that we won the cup anyway, but in the end is was more in spite of Kaberle and not because of him. Maybe he didn't fit our system, or something, but regardless, that move didn't work out the way we'd hoped. Besides, if the B's were going to make a big move in free agency, I'd rather they try to steal Bieksa away from Vancouver. Doubtful anyone could do that, though. |

Interesting. Yeah, I could see the Avs giving him a shot and I wouldn't mind it one bit. There are quite a few other top-tier UFA defensemen that are currently unsigned as well: Ehrhoff, Wisniewski, Pitkanen, Edit: Bieksa just resigned with Van. Edited by Brokemon, Monday Jun 27 2011, 01:10 PM.

Adrian Dater seems convinced that Vokoun will end up signing with the Avs. NHL.com staff writer Dave Lozo also predicts the Avs signing not only Vokoun, but Jovanovski as well. Exciting stuff. |

Jovanovski and Vokoun make us a playoff contender instantly. That would be amazing. |

Excellent value. I don't like that it's only a 1-year deal, though. With it, Jones will be a UFA next season, not to mention the Avs have a vast majority of their player contracts expiring next year as well (only 9 will still be under contract, 2 being roster players). They better start signing early next season, or there will inevitably be some major contractual issues to work out. Also, I echo what you said about Vokoun and Jovo (or another veteran d-man). If the Avs can stay healthy, I have no doubt in my mind they could make a very solid playoff run next season with those added pieces. Edited by Brokemon, Wednesday Jun 29 2011, 03:07 PM.

They aren't going to sign anyone long-term until the new CBA is done. We're not the only team doing it. As for Jones, I think he'll be here long-term. The Avs decided that when they traded Stewart. They just didn't want to give him a 4-year deal for what he's worth right now and then have a big salary cap reduction after the new CBA (which I think is likely; NHL salaries are too high). I do agree that a few guys need to be locked up quickly, though. I'm just not particularly concerned about Jones. |

Tampa Bay finally signed Roloson, leaving the Avs the most desirable team in need of a starting netminder. Vokoun is an Av. Book it. Edit- News is spilling out about Florida doing their damnedest to re-sign Vokoun. Their GM had this to say: "We're in negotiations with him as we speak and we're very hopeful," Tallon said on a conference call with local reporters Wednesday. "That's all I can tell you." Please god, no. Edited by Brokemon, Wednesday Jun 29 2011, 07:38 PM.
