I wouldn't mind this being a "digital expansion pack" if it was something even reminiscent of the amount of content in an expansion pack, but four maps from Battlefield 2? I haven't heard the pricing yet, but I doubt this is going to be much better of a deal than CoD's map packs, if at all. |

And PC gamers won't care because they'll just mod the maps in themselves, or just not buy/play them. |

The Call of Duty map packs are always among the highest selling items on Steam the weeks when they come out. As much as a lot of PC gamers like to claim that they are "different" and "better" than console games on this issue, most of them are exactly the same and will take whatever they have to from a developer in order to get their game fix. |

I just knew this was going to happen. At least in Battlefield 2, the unlocks were few and didn't require spending real money to acquire (unless you count the extra Special Forces unlocks, but word is that you just had to log in and play on a computer that had SF installed to get the unlocks available), nor did they horribly unbalance things. While BF3 is shaping up to be a good game, what does it have to offer (aside from building destruction and technically better graphics) over 1942/Vietnam/BF2? |

Better than MW3 is a given. (Well, better than anything CoD is a given, maybe except for the original and United Offensive, which I can't readily comment on, but are better received by some folks.) Better than its own predecessors? They've got a pretty tough act to follow. |

Miles better? I highly doubt that. I do prefer Battleifeld gameplay slightly, but honestly, sometimes it either turns into a camp-fest where people sit back and snipe or a who can get to the tank first fest. CoD has its problems, but in terms of multiplayer, it is pretty good for the most part, especially the IW developed games (I can't stand Treyarch's titles). |

To someone who likely has not played much CoD, they would indeed be the same. But, especially in the multiplayer, there are subtle differences, some of which are difficult to describe that after playing 2 Treyarch titles and 2 IW titles I can see clearly. For example, comparing MW2 and Black Ops, MW2 was a much, much faster paced game. You kill quickly and die quickly, killstreaks play a big role, and there is generally a lot of carnage going on most of the time. In Black Ops, the game is much slower, players have more health, the guns have more recoil, and killstreaks play a somewhat smaller role, especially given the fact that the extra-damage stopping power perk was removed meaning everyone uses ghost to hide from UAV's. To me, it is the difference between a more arcade-y experience and a more "realitic" experience I suppose, and I greatly prefer the arcade-y style. Black Ops is just boring. Call of Duty 4 probably was a balance between the two, and may have been the deepest experience multiplayer wise, while WaW was just awful in almost every respect. The campaigns also have a different feel. Treyarch always goes for the corny route, going all the way back to CoD3. I don't recall the specifics as well as I once did, but in general, there are for me at least many cringe-worthy moments in every Treyarch campaign. IW is genrally better, going for a bit of a more cinematic experience I suppose, with tighter storylines, though MW2's plot got really ridiculous and hard to follow in the 2nd half and made me lose faith in IW. CoD 4's campaign remains one of the best I have ever played, though and CoD 2's campiagn was very good. Also, Treyarch's games always, always, always have issues with lag and connectivity. CoD 3's mutliplayer was unplayable, I still have issues with WaW to this day just trying to play co-op with a friend, and Black Ops is a lagfest. IW's games are much better about this, but IW sucks about releasing patches to fix exploits and imbalances in the gameplay (grenade launchers in MW2), which is a bummer, since I like their games better. Treyarch is better in that regard, even if the fixes have limited effectiveness. In essence, the two studios have stylistic differences that make or break the game for me.
