Bruins won game 5, hopefully they can close it out in 6, because Tampa scares the hell out of me, and I wouldn't want to give them a chance to win a game 7, even if it is in Boston.

Well, Vancouver won the West. San Jose, year after year, can never seem to break through, despite how good of a team they have.

Being a dirty Canadian and a fan of the Moose, I'll have to root for the 'Nucks.

The whole city of Boston can fuck off. They don't need any more championships.

At least I can put up with Bruins fans. Vancouver has some of the most obnoxious, disrespectful fans in the NHL. As far as I'm concerned, they don't deserve to win their first Cup. Bruins must win as the lesser of two evils.

The NHL is probably happy about the match up. Major market Canadian team versus major market American team is bound to be good for ratings across the board. Tampa/San Jose could have been a ratings disaster, but I think it also would have been a more exciting series to watch. Lots of scoring, lots of star power. On the other hand, Luongo v Howard sounds like a lot of 2-1 games to me.

Also, the Bruins playoff games did higher average ratings than Boston Celtics playoff games this year (even when both teams were playing at the same time) for the first time in history.

Man, so far in this game both goalies are on fire. Also, these refs are calling way too many penalties.

Timmy deserved that one. His defense completely collapsed those last few seconds.

ESPN

The opener of the Stanley Cup finals drew the best preliminary rating for a Game 1 in 12 years.

The Vancouver Canucks' last-second 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins earned a 3.2 overnight rating and 6 share on NBC Wednesday.

That is a 14 percent increase from last year's Philadelphia-Chicago Game 1 and the highest since a 3.7 for Buffalo-Dallas in 1999.

The rating was boosted by heavy interest in Boston's large market, which posted a 25.5/39, topping the 19.1/34 for Game 1 of last year's Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals.

The rating was 113 percent higher than the first game on NBC the last time a Canadian team was in the final. Ottawa-Anaheim in 2007 drew a 1.5/3.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight ratings measure the country's largest markets.

CBC

5.6 million Canadians watched opening game of Stanley Cup Final between Vancouver and Boston

Game One of the Stanley Cup Final between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins was the highest-rated NHL game in the history of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA with average audience of 5.6 million and a peak of 7.8 million.

It is the single highest audience for an NHL playoff and regular season game on CBC, shattering the previous record of 4.96 million set in 1994 with the Game 7 Stanley Cup final match-up between the Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers.

It was also the second most-watched sports program on CBC, behind only the 2002 Olympic Men’s Hockey Final between Canada and the USA in Salt Lake City which drew an audience of 8.96 million viewers.

More excellent news.
