The big rumor going around today is haptic feedback for the touch screen.

With haptic feedback Nintendo could use vibration and electrical impulses to simulate textures and real objects that you can actually feel on the screen with your fingers.

Sounds like sorcery to me.

I can't imagine Nintendo going over 400 dollars with this one.

I'd place my bets on 300-350, which in comparison to PS3 and 360's current pricing isn't unreasonable.

True... but I could never justify that much after just buying a PS3. They better come out all-guns-blazing or this thing is going to enter an already heavily saturated market (especially if it isn't a huge jump over the 360/PS3 performance) and flop for everyone who isn't a buy-everything Nintendo fan.

It depends on how many of the rumors are true.

If this thing really does have super advanced motion controls, a haptic feedback touchscreen, serious horsepower, and decent online I see it selling like crazy.

I wonder what impact Nintendo's moving to the next generation at least a year or two before Sony or Microsoft will have on the success of the platform. The 360 had a year advantage over the other two, and that helped it get a decent head start, even if now 5-6 years down the line that advantage has waned somewhat. I wonder if Nintendo will continue to market mostly to the casual audience (as with the Wii), or if they will do something to try to steal way the whole FPS/Action crowd from the other consoles. One thing it had better have is a better online system, because as it stands, Nintendo is far, far behind in that regard.

Nintendo has stated time and time again that they are actively seeking better partnerships with major western developers, and that they no longer wish to be left out of major cross-platform releases.

Nintendo isn't stupid. They know exactly which demographics they nailed (casuals, children, super hardcore/niche gamers, Nintendo fans, girls) and which they didn't (mainstream gamers).

Nintendo also knows that the path to the mainstream gamer is through graphics, marketing, and online.

Big question then is can they deliver. If they go all weird again with the controls, they'll probably have the same trouble the Wii had.

The controller is pretty much confirmed to have four face buttons, four shoulder buttons, a d-pad, and two analog sticks.

As such, it'll be able to handle anything that PS3 and 360 can in addition to the motion/touch/mic/whatever controls.

On a related note, I think the Wii would have done even better if the Classic Controller was included in the box with the remote and nunchuck.

Rumors from the interwebs say that Microsoft has sent out some dev kits and is trying to scrape together an E3 appearance to spoil Nintendo's show.

I heard that sony was trying to get something together along this line too but someone hacked into their development house and stole all the stuff inside and left a note that said "we are legion".
