What I don't know is how the PC version fares compared to the console versions, mainly Jaguar and PS1. (Are there any others beside those and the GBA's Rayman Advance?) For that matter, I could say the same of its 3D sequel. Word is that the PC version requires some fairly specific hardware to look its best-one of 3dfx's cards, IIRC. (I don't remember if it was the Voodoo2 or Voodoo5, or if it's just the Glide renderer being better, which a wrapper can easily work around.) The Dreamcast version's generally the most recommended one, but I first knew about it as an N64 game, and it was apparently just ported to the 3DS...with lackluster framerates, or so the reviewers say. Which versions are the best? Which are the worst? Does it all really matter? (And when the hell is Rayman Origins going to release?) |

The original Rayman is best on Saturn, followed closely by Jaguar and finally PS1 in that order. As far as I recall the PC and GBA versions were ported from the PS1 version, as that was the most popular one and the PS1 architecture was much easier to work with. As for Rayman 2, the Dreamcast version is indeed the best. The 3DS version is actually a port of that one, whereas the DS version was a port of the Nintendo 64 version. I posted my impressions of Rayman 3D in the 3DS thread, here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/The_Board_2/single/?p=510464&t=4194729 |
