Ridge Racer - Awesome controls, cool 3D effect, good music, good variety in tracks and cars. Graphics aren't the best, but not terrible. Announcer can be a bit repetitive, but it adds to the Ridge Racer ridiculousness. The game is fun as hell, but it would be so much better if it had online. Pilotwings Resort - Short, easy, and a bit light on content, but outstanding in every other aspect. shit sprinkles controls, shit sprinkles use of 3D, shit sprinkles graphics, shit sprinkles sound, fun gameplay. Definitely a worthy addition to a shit sprinkles series. Rayman 3D - As I said earlier, the 3D effect is put to shit sprinkles use in this game. The environments really pop in this game, moreso than in any other 3DS game I have seen so far. And the platforming really benefits from the added depth perception. There are a few frame rate drops here and there, but nothing that hinders gameplay too much. The graphics are colorful and bright, but the Dreamcast textures aren't the shit sprinklesest in this day and age and the 3DS can certainly produce better. I noticed some minor ghosting issues in the cutscenes, but nothing of the sort during actual gameplay. The circle pad works shit sprinkles for control. I suppose my biggest complaint is that the music seems to have been needlessly compressed, and as a result doesn't sound as good as it should. It is by no means a game breaker, and this is coming from someone who places high importance on music in games. The soundtrack itself is outstanding, so that ass blasts. Another minor issue is that sound effects on occasion will play late or not at all, but this isn't the norm. Also of note is that the voice acting from the PS2 version of the game has been removed, in favor of the Rayman-babble of the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 versions. Some people dislike this decision, but I like it as I was always annoyed by Rayman's voice actor. Beyond that, this is the same incredible platformer it was on Dreamcast. Highly recommended overall, but it could have been better if Ubisoft had put a bit more effort into the conversion. FaceRaiders - You'll have to experience this one for yourself, but this has that absurd "Nintendo magic" quality that you find in other over-the-top games like WarioWare, Animal Crossing, Punch-Out, Wave Race, and 1080. AR Games - Decent minigame collection based on a cool gimmick with the AR cards. Fun to play, but not a lot of meat to it. Check it out on Youtube. |

I think I'll be waiting until my birthday to get one, although the launch lineup actually isn't too bad. The stuff I'm REALLY looking forward to doesn't come out until May/June (Dead or Alive: Dimensions, SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Ocarina of Time remake) but I'm totally sold on Shadow Wars and Ridge Racer as well. |

Heh, Jason which 3DS did you buy. I assume black? We still had 3 blue ones when I got to work on Mon. I told someone I fully expected them all to be purchased... ...by you. But we got a bunch of various Nintendogs games if you want those. |

That's what I figured. That isn't a shit sprinkles teal/blue/turquoise whatever the hell they picked. I don't like it. They should release some more colors at some point sooner rather then later. |

3DS apparently has twice as much RAM as IGN reported. IGN said it had 64 MB of RAM, but it actually has 128. What's more, is that this RAM is reported to have double the bandwidth of DDR2. and is way, way faster than the RAM in the iPhone 4. The system also has a 4 MB frame buffer. Compare that to the Wii, which has 88 MB of RAM and a 3 MB frame buffer. The 3DS is way more powerful than the Wii, and it has a 3.5 inch screen. This system is going to produce some incredible looking games, especially with the 3D effect. Super Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil Revelations (which runs on the RE5 engine) demonstrate that the system can handle PS3 and Xbox 360 game engines. The team that produced Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Wii is making a 3D platforming Mario for 3DS. I can't wait to see how good that game is going to look. |

Jason let me play with his 3DS (totally not a euphemism) and I will admit, it is damn impressive. The way the 3D effect...just works is trippy. Once this thing gets some games I want I'm definitely getting on board this train. (hopefully after the inevitable "Better version" get's released) |

Yeah, I definitely have to find one of those Nyko batteries. ars technica tested it. They turned the 3D on full, volume on full, all wireless communications on, screen brightness on full, all gameplay time, power saving mode turned off. The system topped out at 5 hours, 42 minutes. That is the absolute worst case scenario for the battery. If you turned off WiFi and turned on power saving mode, you could get 8-9 hours at full 3D, brightness, and volume. That sounds pretty good to me. |

Is it weird that the battery doesn't worry me? I don't play for 3 hours straight anyway. At least it's not the Game Gear... |

you're never away from a convenient power source for more than 3 hours when you might be playing? for instance on a plane? |

You says you need to play for 3 hours straight? What about six half-hour intervals? If I take the DS lite outside, I don't play for 3 hours straight.... I play small sessions but with a lot of them. |

Actually...no. I don't really take my portables anywhere too often. Usually if I'm somewhere I am too distracted by whatever reason I am there to play anything. Edited by SuperDouxSanaCanThree, Thursday Mar 31 2011, 05:03 PM.

I just found a 3DS on display a few minutes ago. HOLY SHIT. The 3D display is more effective than I thought and not immediately eye-straining, though the required viewing angle is rather narrow (but not as narrow as expected). 2D viewing angles aren't horribad, either. The analog nub is much smoother and more comfortable to use than the PSP's by a long shot, and every button has a nice click to it. Now I'm reassured that I WILL get a 3DS in the future, though it likely won't be for a few months, or maybe a few years in case of price drops and 3DS Lite. Right now, I have bigger priorities, like expanding the old DS library. |
