It's not like any of their games are actually complicated enough to need manuals. They're mostly throwaway these days, anyway. The pictures aren't even that interesting. |

Sadly, most game manuals were becoming nothing more than installation guides and quick reference pamphlets...if they even bother to include a paper manual. Hell, I remember when flight simulators and RPGs used to have these gigantic, spiral-bound manuals included in the standard package. (The former especially needs them to guide players through countless complicated avionics systems. They didn't call 'em "study sims" for nothing.) Sometimes, they'd have multiple little booklets alongside the main manual, detailing other things. Nowadays, even the flight sims will provide you with a dinky little paper manual at best, if at all. The real manual's on a PDF, and if you want a paper one, that'll cost at least $30 on top of the sim itself, which likely cost anywhere from $15 (on a deep discounted sale) to the full $60. (At least I have a system that's nice for PDF-reading again...but the vast majority of people aren't packing tablet computers.) Edited by NamelessFragger, Monday Mar 21 2011, 01:06 PM.

Falcon 4.0 came with the manual in a huge binder than I now use to hold all my AP US notes and stuff. It's pretty ace. Edited by Heavy_Metal_Jesus, Monday Mar 21 2011, 02:27 PM.

In-game tutorials have been standard protocol for years now. It's good that they've quit wasting paper. |

Yeah, except they're probably going to use the extra space they've freed up to put more printed advertisements in there, so they probably won't be saving paper at all. |

I have one of those Falcon 4.0 binder editions. Wish they did the same for Allied Force. How many other games/sims are sold in a binder manual that doubles as the main packaging? |

I pretty much kick ass at any game that I touch, so I don't really need a manual. This must suck for you guys though. |

Maybe in the games you play, but good luck trying to ramp-start an F-16C, Ka-50, or A-10C without some kind of reference. (It's anything BUT a turnkey process.) |

It's a way of mentally preparing the masses for digital distribution. Eliminating the attachment to the physical media and all that's associated with it in a slow, controlled manner. One day you'll wake up and your preordered copy of CoD 15 will have downloaded on your xbox while you were asleep and you'll wonder how you got to such a point. |

Nooooooooooooooo. I actually like printed manuals a lot. Fuck online manuals and in-game manuals. But EA skipping on them isn't a huge deal because EA has been slacking in that department. Mirror's Edge had a 5 page manual in black and white. Same thing with Burnout Paradise. A good, long manual in color is awesome. At least Ninty will continue making good manuals. :3 |

Oh darn, how will I ever figure out how to install any of my games without the manual? And how will I figure out the basic controls? My copy of Crysis 2 came in today, and here is what it included: ![]() There is nothing of any value in either the manual or limited edition info slip, other then the product keys. Now what I will miss are things like this. The grey manual in the lower left is a 'technical reference' guide. It has illustrations of each of the ships and units, as well as back story. Being the HW nerd that I am, I have this as well as the special edition sound track disc. |
