"With Arcade Edition, they threw this out of the window and made it imbalanced on purpose by making certain characters much stronger than others. Ono said that they did this because he believes that having a more powerful character like that ass blasts to build community and competitive spirit. Unbalanced characters build community and competitive spirit? Nah, I'd just say that it just compresses it down to the top-tier characters. *points to MvC2* (As an aside, I'll eat my hat if it turns out that they follow up on the "no Super SFIV for PC" statements technically, instead offering SSFIV: Arcade Edition. Still doesn't make sense that they'd port the first iteration, but not Super.) |

sf4 for pc sold a lot, but it was pirated even more. capcom says they dont want to port it because of that. Theres prolly something else to it though, because im pretty sure they still make other pc games. I think it has to do with the fact that it was hacked to fuck. |

On top of the hacking and the piracy, the use of macros really throws a wrench into the upper levels of a fighting game. |

Aren't there X360 and PS3 controllers floating about with programmable macros? Maybe not the former because of the strict licensing requirements, but I'm sure someone's got a USB HID game controller board that can be reprogrammed for some really crazy stuff. (It's the completely wrong sort of controller for a fighting game, but come to think of it, I should totally try that with my TM HOTAS Cougar. Too bad I still don't have a PS3.) As for hacking...I've heard a lot of cheating complaints about CoD:MW2 over the PSN, ever since the security measures got blown apart. Is the same happening to the fighting games? Not that I particularly care that much about playing online. All I want is to have a chance to practice on the games people play at the uni game room, because having to practice shit against people who already know all the combos and special moves and other mechanics and shit, all of which they have no problem executing when given the opportunity, is a total, utter bitch. And since the loser has to pass the controller...yeah, you get the idea. Not fun. Not fucking fun at all. (It's also why I don't like round-based FPSs where you have to wait 'til the next round to respawn. Less practice opportunities, less time to get familiar with the game and get one up on your opponents...ARGH. I can't dedicate my entire life to a single game, either-I'm attending college for a reason, and that's already a huge timesink.) (Wait, why the hell am I even playing fighting games, then? I can at least say I only started looking into GGXX because of the music...) Edited by NamelessFragger, Thursday Feb 24 2011, 10:25 PM.

If you want to get good at street fighter 4 youll be leagues ahead of the rest if you just get really good at street fighter 2. Generally speaking, that rule applies to the main series as a whole, though sf3 is the oddball here due to parrying, but it doesnt break the whole zoning mechanic that capcom does a great job at never mentioning in any instruction manual, leading people to think sf is about combos or pure offense. SF4 has its own mechanics as well, but the more advanced things arent necessary for 90% of the games people play. EDIT: Heres a trick that will ass blast you win more at your uni. When you arent sure if someone if going to attack you or try to throw you press downback+lp+lk. This is called an option select, and its the easiest one to pull off. If they attack you, you block, if they throw, you tech the throw, if they do nothing you hit them. If someone knows about this its baitable, but its usually ok Edited by Necrotrophic, Thursday Feb 24 2011, 10:51 PM.
