I'll concede that there are exceptions on both sides but on the whole they are masses of muscle. |

They barely have anyone worth a shit on their roster. TNA has way, way more talent. And some pretty big names as well (Kurt Angle, Matt and Jeff Hardy, Bubba Ray and Devon Dudley, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, etc). |

John Morrison and Kofi Kingston are both pretty entertaining to watch and CM Punk is a great bad guy. |

Kingston and Morrison are fucking garbage. Punk is okay, but his character fit better when he was in Ring of Honor and TNA. WWE is too restrictive. Made me want to puke the other night when they kept bleeping The Rock every time he said the word "ass". TNA has more talent in one stable (Fourtune) than WWE has on its whole roster. AJ Styles is the only wrestler in the world right now that can be compared to Kurt Angle. |

TNA has been on the upswing of late, but you're right, I don't think we'll ever see the popularity of the mid to late 90s again. WWE's ratings and PPV buyrates have been steadily falling, though they're still well ahead of TNA at this point. |

okay so, wrestling game. The controls are like this: light attack - [] heavy attack - /\ (can be charged if held) light grab - X heavy grab - O block - R1 reversal - L1 run - R2 (can be combined with attacks) L2 does everything else like get in or out of the ring, pick up weapons, pin, climb to the top rope etc. special moves are []+X and /\+O with your finisher being R1+L1 The way the system works is that you have a layered life bar. It starts green then goes yellow, orange and finally red with pulsating red being the final countdown. As you do different attacks you build up a special meter under your health bar. It has 3 stars, each star represents the amount of times you can perform a special move. Next to your player's face is a big star with an F inside it. When this is flashing, you can do your finisher. If you do your finisher on your opponent when their health bar is flashing red, it's an automatic win. Everything can be blocked or countered but there is a window of opportunity for doing so which conveniently makes itself known by flashing L1 when your opponent has initiated a grab on you. If you press L1 within the window, you perform a reversal. If you block a single attack using R1, it knocks them back and you perform a similar attack of your own. It's a nicely paced system that rewards varied attacks through offense as well as counters as you can bank special moves quickly by countering effectively. The system is simple enough though that you can just pick it up and start playing. The game looks good and the animations are really smooth for the most part but it does some goofy things with hit detection when you confuse it. For example, Mysterio was on the top rope and was going to jump off, flying at me for an attack. I ran towards the ropes and slid out of the ring but the animation literally looked like a magnet pulled him towards me faster and farther than he should have really gone. The intros accurately portray their IRL counterparts albeit truncated versions. The animations and antics are the same and the proper entrance themes are used. It's fun to see and they usually only last about 15 seconds so they're not so long that you feel like you'd end up just turning them off. Howard Finkel is the ring announcer and he does a good job. However, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler's color commentary on the actual matches themselves are predictably atrocious. The demo itself is pretty bare bones. Even moreso than the MK demo. You only get one arena (some generic arena made for the game) and 2 characters (Rey Mysterio and Ultimate Warrior). So I played some matches on it and I have to say, Mysterio is a much easier character to use than Ultimate Warrior. He's faster, he can chain moves quicker and he can attack from a further range than the Warrior. It was also way easier to nail his finisher. The Warrior is a slower, more defensive character. You cannot run right at Mysterio with him. He will dodge out of the way and do some uber mcawesome head-scissor fliparooni shit on you. You have to counter his throw then when he's stunned start pounding on him with attacks to wear him down. TLDR version: I like the game and will be getting it on Tuesday when it comes out. |

so I got the wrestling game. It has 2 different "campaigns'. One is called Path of Champions which, at it's core is a tournament ladder like any fighting game. The differentiator being that it's not just 1 on 1 to the top. Each match has it's own rules like 1 on 1, triple threat, fatal four way, elimination, cage match etc. There are 3 different ladders. Each of them have their own flavor and they all have little cutscenes in between every few matches taunting you. For example, in one ladder your fighting your way towards a match with the Undertaker at Summerslam and every so often, it'll go to a scene with Undertaker and Paul Bearer in what looks like a castle with coffins and candles and pipe organs playing and lighting and thunder outside and Paul Bearer telling you how the Undertaker is going to pull your soul from your body and banish it to the abyss. Shit's funny. There are 2 other ladders I haven't played yet but the boss of one is Randy Orton for the WWE championship and the other is a Tag Team ladder where the final boss is Degeneration X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels). The other campaign mode is Fantasy Warfare. It's an old vs new kinda thing where they make these matchups like best big man, Mr. Wrestlemania, most charismatic, biggest superstar and so on. As you finish each one of these matchups (there are like 15 or so of them) you unlock new ones. I think that Fantasy Warfare is how you unlock new characters because when I played through the path of legends mode with Ultimate Warrior all I unlocked was an alternate ring attire and his entrance for use in Create a Wrestler mode. So far it's really fun. The computer is really damn difficult on the easiest setting, countering and reversing pretty much anything you try so higher level play is going to be all defensive and reversals of reversals and the timing window is really small. I spent 30 minutes trying to beat Hulk Hogan in a cage match (sub boss of the Undertaker ladder) because every throw I tried, he countered. It's good though. My roommate and I played some tag team on it earlier. We were Hogan and Savage and when we won the match it unlocked a trophy called "Mega Powers" Good stuff. |

Unlocking stuff takes a long time in this game. In order to get all the extra costumes you have to play through the ladders 3 times for each guy. Each ladder has 10 matches. There are 30 wrestlers in the game. that's 900 matches. Fuck that. I unlocked all the wrestlers easily. You just play through fantasy warfare and choose a locked dude and win with him. There are 15 of those matches and they can be done in 2 player so I just played them in 2 player mode and just pinned them right away to unlock. Took like 15 minutes. There are some problems with the game from a technical standpoint though. It caches the game to the HDD when you start it up. It doesn't install it. That would be nice. No, every time you go to turn it on, it precaches the info. Takes an extra 5 minutes to get to the main menu. Also, the sound drops out pretty badly in create-a-wrestler mode when you load up different outfits and so on. I do like the create a wrestler though. I made a dude called "The Future" who is wearing this TRON looking outfit and a pair of shades. He has Shawn Michaels moveset and a finisher called Futureshock that's like a double backflip pedigree. He comes out to thunder and lighting and God of War film score entrance music. It's pretty cool. My roommate said he was going to make a barbarian. |

so my roommate made a created wrestler. He's a barbarian. So now we have a tag team called the Past and the Future. It's pretty cool. |
