Medicare helps my grandparents pay for health costs through taxes. It just subsidizes the cost I think. |

I thought the public option was like, you pay a percentage of your taxes every month and in response you get health coverage in the form of insurance. |

Medicare is what conservatives call government run healthcare. Medicare really isnt that different from what Canadas healthcare does (well it is different, but conceptually its similar) minus for everyone. Your grand parents are commie-nazis just like Obama. |

O'Donnell lost. Which is awesome, and completely obvious. Rand Paul got in, which sucks. But then again, it is Kentucky so you cant really blame them. |

Rand Paul winning is the best thing to come out of this entire election. |

Yeah. Cutting taxes, reducing spending, and removing barriers to entering the market? Craaaaaazy. |

Cutting taxes while having this kind of deficit doesnt make any sense, at all. How many times are we gonna have a right winger try this shit and have the deficit go up? In 2007, Laffer said that the curve should not be the sole basis for raising or lowering taxes.[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve#Theory Depends on what you reduce the spending on. But much of the technology that improved our lives has been funded publicly while they were being developed, or at the very least the people who developed them got their education from schools that were publicly funded much of the time. The technology is not limited to only the modern computer and the internet. So cutting spending isnt actually a good idea across the board. Investments can and often do lead to prosperity, especially with education which is disastrously underfunded in many areas of the country. This a big reason why other much more collectivist countries are producing more engineers and scientists than we are these days. It also depends on what barriers youre cutting. If youre making poisoned food theres no purpose to allowing it in the market in the first place. The purpose of human civilization is to make life better for the people in it. So theres no purpose to allow this kind of crap to go on. There are some other barriers that should be broken down though. The free market is not inherently a good thing. Theistic religion is bad for the same reason political religion is. Blind faith. Edited by Necrotrophic, Tuesday Nov 2 2010, 08:19 PM.
