The Broncos kicked off their preseason tonight against the Bengals. They lost, but the preseason is pretty irrelevant as far as that goes.

What's important:
Kyle Orton went 8/13 for 84 yards and 2 TDs, no INT

He looked smooth out there.

Brady Quinn, on the other hand, looked like shit. He went 6/18 for 68 yards, 0 TD, and 1 INT (which was returned for a TD). Additionally, he had three or four other passes that were either batted down or dropped by Bengals players. He realistically could have had 5 interceptions.

And then you have Tebow. He looked like a rookie out there, but he had a decent line:
8/13, 105 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, and a rushing TD

I don't know why they bothered with Brady Quinn, but whatever.

Orton has been getting rave reviews in training camp and he looked great today. If you look at his career statistics, his overall play improves drastically every year. Each year he improves in terms of TD:INT ratio, passing yards per attempt, completion percentage, and QB rating.

Last year his stats were as follows:
62.1% completion, 3802 yards, 21 TD, 12 INT, 86.8 QB rating

If he improves over those numbers this season, it'll be interesting to see what the Broncos do. His contract is up at the end of 2010. Do they pay him, or turn the reigns over to Tebow?

9ers already have a bunch of guys out for a big chunk of the season
backups retiring after 1 year
alex smith doesnt look that good, despite some reports.

its not looking so good, id love to see this team play to its potential once, especially considering they generally have an easy schedule this year.

The ancient, overrated, alway hurt running back?

The guy who has never once played an entire season? The guy who can't run between the tackles?

He might be okay as an out for when Alex Smith is under pressure, but that's it.

Dude was never half as good as people made him out to be.

If you're comparing John Elway to Brian Westbrook, you're only showing how little you know about football.

John Elway is overrated(by broncos fans, everyone else just sees him for what he is), so you have no room to talk about westbrook. Inb4youliststatsthatonlyyouthinkareimportant

Elway is held by a great many to be the greatest ever. Perhaps more people think Montana is the greatest, but it's just plain idiotic to think that only Denver fans consider Elway the greatest.

Besides. You like the 49ers. Your football opinion is irrelevant.

Elway is rarely held to be the best ever outside of Denver, and for good reason. Interceptions are bad. Maybe hes color blind though.

I grew up liking the 9ers, because they had an offensive system that I like, and without any doubt held several of the best teams to ever set foot on a field.

Looks like the Broncos are thinking the same way I am.

They gave Orton a contract extension through 2011.

I like the move. it means that they're not going to put Tebow out there as a starter until they know he's ready. He still has mechanical issues to work out, and he needs time to learn the offense as well.

Further, it shows the Broncos are wanting to win WHILE they wait for Tebow to develop, rather than tanking for a few seasons and drafting players to grow with Tebow. There's no question that Orton is the best quarterback on the roster at this point.

So, the Broncos played like ass against the Jaguars and lost.

But this week, they obilterated the Seahawks.

Orton is on pace to put up these numbers:
4816 yards, 24 TD, 8 INT, 68% completion, 9 YPA for a 104 QB rating

Not too shabby.

Anyway, the Broncos are 1-1.

The toughest part of their schedule is in the next four weeks:
Indianapolis @ Denver
Denver @ Tennessee
Denver @ Baltimore
New York Jets @ Denver

If they can come out of that stretch at 3-3 or better, I think we'll win the division.

We still get to play the 49ers, the Cardinals, the Rams, the Raiders (twice), and the Chiefs (twice). Then we get the Chargers twice and the Texans once.

We almost always split with the Chargers. I think the Texans are probably the best team in the AFC, so I'll chalk that up as a probable loss. That leaves the Raiders, Chiefs, 49ers, Cardinals, and Rams.

We SHOULD beat all of those teams comfortably, but there's always a chance we throw out a lemon.

So, I think that puts the Broncos at 11-5 or 10-6 this year.

well the 9ers are pretty much throwing their season away.

im not expecting anything from them at this point. they need new coaches all around and a new qb.

Orton threw for 476 yards, but the Broncos couldn't run the ball. Moreno didn't play and Maroney sucks balls.

Orton had the long run of the day, at nine yards.

So anyway, the Broncos are 1-2 going to Tennessee next week. We ought to win that one.
