Well i don't know what kind of metal you are into, but i'll just give a few links to some of the metal bands i like. Agalloch - Foliorum Viridium Agalloch - Falling Snow The Morningside - The trees Ghost Brigade - My heart is a tomb Ghost Brigade - Concealed revulsions Rapture - Nameless Katatonia - Sulfur Draconian - Earthbound ^ My favourite female singer. Not a stellar display of Anders though. Draconian - Death come near me A song that better displays the abilities of Anders. Unfortunately the complete song is not on youtube (15 minutes long) Summoning - Land of the dead I can recommend more if you want, but this should do for now. Edited by Tobli, Saturday, 26. I am not so sure about that. Even though i wouldn't mind expanding my metal horizon. I don't think i have heard of evoken before. *listens to some songs on youtube* Funeral doom usually doesn't appeal to me. The only band that i classify as FD in my collection is shape of despair. MDB? I think "for my fallen angel" is tucked away in the back of my favourites list on youtube. I listened to some MDB i haven't heard before, and they do appear to have more general appeal than i first thought. *tries to listen to ND* (i think i have tried once in the past) *Mournfully scrolls trough the superior music featured among the related videos* |

Well, like I said, I haven't really gotten any recommendations, but so far I'm digging Opeth, Agalloch, and Parkway Drive. I'm tending to like power metal and prog metal the most. |

Oh shit son. That's my area of expertise! Alkemyst Anubis Gate Black Wings Brainstorm Circle II Circle Circus Maximus DGM Diablo Swing Orchestra (the most progressive band on this list hands down) Dreamscape Evergrey Firewind Freak Kitchen Iced Earth Kamelot Leverage Masterplan Mercenary Nocturnal Rites Pagan's Mind Phonomik Primal Fear Rob Rock The MIGHTY SABATON!!! (greatest live show I've ever seen) Seventh Wonder Silent Force Sonata Actica Spheric Universe Experience Stratovarius Symphony X Vanden Plas Venturia (hard to find French Prog band) Some of these are progressive, some are power, some have crossover elements of both and some are just heavy melodic metal but it all kinda gels. I know it's a lot but there's a shitload of amazing bands in this area of Metal. Hope you find some that you like! |

Nice pick with Opeth there. You should check out Between the Buried and Me (my favorite band), they also combine several styles into their songs. Between the Buried and Me - Selkies the Endless Obsession Between the Buried and Me - White Walls Between the Buried and Me - Ants of the Sky (Part 1) Between the Buried and Me - Ants of the Sky (Part 2) They have other good ones too but these are the more epic ones. |

Opeth is good Its best to avoid power metal from the get go, because a few years down the line youre not gonna know what to do with all those cds taking up space. |

well i couldnt say mp3s because theyre easily disposable. in other words, power metal sucks. once youve heard one hammerfall song, youve heard everything the genre has to offer. Power metal is tied for first place in terms of how derivative its music is with death metal thats saying a lot, because metal is very derivative Edited by H8sMikeMoore, Monday, 5. that's a pretty sweeping generalization Joe. I will agree that most power metal is fairly generic and that's why I prefer Progressive over Power. However, to say that Hammerfall (understood that hammerfall is in essence a "dummy variable") represents the alpha and the omega of the genre is a pretty bold statement. Most of the bands that I listed above are in some way or another, removed from power metal cliche'. Not to say that they don't show up from time to time but there are ways to make power metal interesting and that's what I've attempted to post. |
