I'm beyond tweakin' right now. I get this way every year. It's like my Christmas. I'm leaving about noon Wednesday and I'll be back sometime Sunday night. I'm bringing my Netbook with me so I can pop in every night after the show. I'm going to write a full review of the festival on Edge Reviews if you wanna check it out and most importantly, I'll give you guys the lineup for next year so whoever's interested in going knows what to expect. So stoked.... |

So I am back from night one. We (Roy and I) got to chill with the dudes from Halcyon Way which a great local heavy Progressive band from Atlanta. They've got a new singer. We got some signographs and some scoop in their new album. Then I got to see Circus Maximus play. They did a set of covers and B-sides. They covered 2 ToTo songs, "Africa" and "Hold the Line". They did Europe's "The Final Countdown", Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and some Queensryche song that I didn't recognize. They also threw in some reworked versions of some tunes off their first album as well as some bonus tracks from their first album. Great great show. The venue they played in was too small. The ALL sing and Mike especially projects like a motherfucker on that mic so it was loud as hell. Oddly enough, the mix was really good for such a small venue and also taking into account the complexity of their instrumentation. Great way to kick off ProgPower X. Will post thoughts on the Thursday show with Suspyre, Future's End, Enchant and Primal Fear after we meander back to our rooms tomorrow night. |

back from night two of ProgPower. Met some cool folks and had a badass time. I feel like shit and that's how it should be after a metal show. Now down to business: Future's End was first. This was the first show they've ever played live and the first substantial exposure I've gotten of the band. They were fucking awesome! Kind of a crossover between power and progressive with a lot of aggression. Guest vocal appearances from Lance King and Chris Salinez. They were so good, we (Roy and I) went and bought their new CD and got it signed. Awesome. Suspyre came out next. They were more of a progressive only band. They had an unimpressive Asian girl playing keyboards. No one sang harmonies. They played kinda sloppy. They should have opened. Enchant followed and put on a show that rivaled Circus Maximus' set from last night. Great vocals, great keys, great guitar work. They were a progressive rock band in the vein of Porcupine Tree. Awesome show. I'd go see them if you get the chance. Primal Fear was the headliner and for good reason. They came out and completely ruined the fuckin' place. I didn't get to hear all the songs I wanted to hear from them but they didn't play a bad song. They probably played for 2 hours or so. What a way to end night 2. The festival hasn't "officially" kicked off yet and I feel like being carried away on a stretcher. Night 3, here I come! |
